God made the laws regarding capital punishment.
People should not get away with murder.

Forgive them yes, punish them yes.

Both can be done.

No, people still need forgiveness, it's just that people seem to only want forgiveness AFTER they get caught doing something they shouldn't be doing, or they simply don't want to be forgiven. Instead they want to be tolerated. Forgiveness is only good for those who truly WANT to be forgiven. Everyone else will be punished in due time.
And yes, the world is FAR more wicked than it used to be and continues to steadily get worse!

Ha. You've not studied much classical culture, have you? The Romans were as cruel, vicious, and licentious as they come. They watched people die for entertainment, and though we have no official numbers, it's long been suspected that slaves outnumbered citizens within the city. And yet, we have this idea that we're worse than they are.

I can see some truth in such an assumption. Our ancient forbears excelled in some virtues that we seem not to (e.g. fortitude) But then again, we most definitely excel in virtues in which they did not (charity, kindness). But to say that we are much more wicked than our ancestors doesn't seem to take into consideration the fact that ethical shortcomings can be peculiar to a particular era or culture, and so easier to overlook than the ethical problems of your own age.

I agree with reply 1. Punishment never works unless the wrong doer is truly sorry from the heart. How many people who commit a crime, enter prison as punishment and come out changed for the better... or "rehabilitated"?

The percentage is almost negligible.

Btw... your thinking would fit right in, with some of the countries in the middle east right now... Punishments are beinghanded out left right and center.. doesn't look like its working either...

No, it's not far more wicked, by biblical standards, or any other. In fact, we're a bunch of prudes compared to many cultures throughout history, including the Romans. So yeah, I think you're wrong.

Forgiving doesn't mean excusing or getting away "Scott Free".A guy can be as sorry as can be for killing someone and ask forgiveness from the family. They can really forgive him, perhaps lead him to the Lord, but the day still comes where he pays his debt to society and the execute him.Fair Deal.
That's like someone saying,"I smoked for 50 years ,then quit. It's not fair I still get lung cancer!I Quit!I should not be accountable!!"

Punished according to what? Words in some ancient book, or law? And punished according to whom? You? You have no right to decide what can and cannot be punished, based only on your particular brand of morality.

People that have faith in Jesus Christ will be forgiven, if
that don't they will be separated from God, which is
hell/punishment.

Biblical times were worse than now. But the future will be worse than Biblical times.
