AWG: In the American Wire Gauge (AWG), diameters can be calculated by applying the formula D(AWG)=.005x92^((36-AWG)/39) inch.

sounds awfully complicated, but 22 gauge wire has a diameter of 0.0254 inches or 0.64516 mm

The link below goes to a conversion table where you can read the diameter of various wire gauges in inches and milimeters for two different standards. It shows that 22 gauge wire is either 0.0280 or 0.0253 inches depending of the standard.

Wire diameter is measured AWG (American wire gauge). The smaller the number, the larger the diameter. Wire gauges go down to 0000 (called 4 ought), which is much larger than 1 gauge. Wire larger than 0000 is measured in circular mills.

On the wire guage scale, the smaller the number-the bigger the wire in diamiter. for instance, in automotive wireing , like to the stereo , normally used is 12 to 10 guage for power and ground wires. speakerwireing 14 to 18 guage in factory insallations
