Ok, so the snake was evil. We can accept that premise. So Mr. Snakey convinced Eve to eat the forbidden fruit. God told her not to so that's, clearly, her bad. Eve convinced Adam to eat said forbidden fruit, too. We get that he was cast out for it but why was his sin any less than a matter of circumstances? Really, why could he have been convinced by Eve and not Mr. Snakey? Aren't their sins exactly the same? Did they not both allow themselves to fall vitim to the same fault?

So, then, why were all women punished for Eve's sin but no men punished for Adam's (besides the whole expulsion form Eden thing). Why does this make women more inherently evil and deserving of punishment than men?

Just in case this is your arguement... If men are supposed to be smarter and less likely to fall victim to Mr. Snakey why was Adam dumb enough not to realize Eve's naivete?

1) I am agnostic, not Christain. Please don't tell me why the Bible is bunk.

2) Agnostic doesn't mean I don't strive to understand. I really can't make sense of the logic behind this.

3) Sorry but labouring by the sweat of one's brow does not compare to the pain in the labouring of birth combined with child rearing. If the pain of birthing comes out of the equation then it makes sense, not otherwise.

4) I'm not saying I understand it to mean both were not punished. I do get that. I just don't understand why Eve, and through her, all women were punished more.

(though thank you all, certainly things that have gotten me thinking. And if 'shrooms were the forbidden fruit the sin of it might make more sense, if not more fun)

5) I'm not asking if the religion is real, the story, or anything else. It is a story, true or false or anywhere in between, it is an example of how people think. I'm looking to understand how people think.

6) I'm not asking about our culpability of sin in general. I'm asking about this one example. I'm asking for specific reasons and logic. "We're all guilty of sin" hardly answers the question in any way, shape, or form.

So Adam was dumb,
and Eve was naive
and Mr. Snakey was devious.

Granted.

But the common idea that Eve was more deserving of punishment or more guilty or whatever is not accurate, at best. God held Adam responsible overall. He punished Eve with pain in childbearing, but Adam with struggle and toil and hard work every day of his life, and in addition held him as the responsible person-in-charge, since God had given Eve to Adam and not the other way around. God gave a seperate curse to each of the three wrong-doers (Adam, Eve, Mr. Snakey), which is right there recorded in chapter 3 of Genesis.

So, back to your question: "why were all women punished for Eve's sin but no men punished for Adam's (besides the whole expulsion form Eden thing)"

How about the whole "being blamed for sin being there in the first place" thing? When Paul is talking to the Romans about sin's arrival (in Roman 5:12), he doesn't mention Eve -- He mantions Adam: "Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned— "

The long and the short of it (not a reference to Mr. Snakey) is, *everyone* is punished for Adam's sin. Which is not as "unfair" as it might sound, because (after all) which of us have never sinned? Which of us have never messed up and done something wrong?

Eve was not the greater of the sinners: She just got birth pains for every mother who's ever lived -- Adam got us all both death *and* hard work all through life!

(Both death *and* taxes! Hmm...)

Ok, my answer will be quite bit different than others.

Adam was not the first human, but the first Prophet in the age of the prophetic cycle. There were other humans, if not so His son could not have married and founded cities. Beside, obviously science has proven there were humans living before the time attributed to Adam's life.

Adam brought writing, and revealed scripture. Before was Nature/Goddess worship. The abuses in the interpretations of the writings caused men's egos to swell, and this was eating the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil, man was tempted by "Eve" for reason of their own jealousy toward each other.

The snake represents the source of knowledge, which also the source of pride.

Men and women have, and always will be equal. The ascendancy of women before Adam, and of men after were just primitive periods in this cycle of time, when the two aspects were explored individually.

Now that we are beginning a new age of fulfillment, the two must be brought into equilibrium, so that the synergistic effects of the two can become the dawning engagement of the age of light, prosperity, and peace.

This question goes back MUCH further than the garden. To put it in simple terms without getting into real depth ( for the moment ) Eve was the lesser, coming from Adam, and had imperfections. Adam was made perfect. Im not trying to belittle women. Adam was a reflection of God. Eve was a part of Adam as Christians is a part of God. Adam knew what it would cost him (his natural life) but loved Eve so much he went with it. It wasn't so much that Eve was the culprit, but that we (Eve) ( Christs bride) failed and Adam ( Jesus ) gave his life for Eve (us) because that was the showing of true love.

What makes you think men did not face consequences of Adam's sin? God said that man would now have to earn his living "by the sweat of his brow". They were both chased out of the garden, and also Adam's name is mentioned alot more than Eve's in the rest of scripture as the one who brought about the "fall", for example, this scripture: "as through one man's disobedience all fell, so through one man's obedience (speaking of Jesus) will many be redeemed".

Eve simply ate magic mushrooms which altered the brain enough to effect natural selection of bigger brains which greatly increased pains during childbirth and forced humans out of the animal kingdom.

We are all sinners from what Adam and Eve did. Jesus died on the cross for our sins. God forgave our sins when Jesus died on the cross for them.
