Depends on what state your in. State laws vary from great gun states like Alaska and Idaho to unconstitional nazi states like Massachussetts and New Jersey. In Alaska you can buy a handgun in a convienence store and after the NICS check clears, stick it in your jacket and walk out. In New Jersey, you have to run around and get permission from local authorities then fill out paperwork, then wait like a month. Very few states allow you to carry silencers, some states will allow you to own them, but not carry them. Here is a website with a list of gun laws for every state.

Depends on where you live. In the US, every state has different gun laws. The federal law says you have to be over 21, have no felony or domestic violence convictions, not be under a domestic violence restraining order, not be mentally ill, plus a few more requirements, to own a handgun. Some states add more stringent requirements and some cities (DC, Chicago, etc.) try to ban them altogether.
A suppressor is in the same classification as a machine gun under federal law in the US. (As opposed to some other countries where having a sound suppressor is actually _required_ if you're going to shoot where the noise will bother people. Go figure.) It's difficult, but not impossible to get a license for one: you have to jump through alot more hoops. And again you state/city may ban them altogether.

To purchase a pistol of any caliber, one must be 21 and pass an "instant" background check.
Some Socialist states like Taxachusetts, New Yuck, and New Jerksey saddle their subjects, er, I mean "citizens" with nonsense like permits, licenses, and waiting periods, which, technically, are ALL UnConstitutional!
We out here in the Free West don't have to put up with such illegal nonsense.
As to the procedure for purchasing a suppressor(proper term, NOT 'silencer') see the correct answer under the question asked by "purplegurl1995" in this forum. Suppressors ARE illegal under SOME state laws, but they ARE LEGAL for purchase under Federal law and BATFE regs. so you will have to check your state firearms laws to find out. If you have a Class 3 firearms dealer close by, he can give you all the info.

Handgun laws very from state to state, and yes you must meet the same qualifications for a 22 pistol. You will NOT be able to obtain a silencer unless you have a special license which you pretty much have to be the Pope to obtain.
Federal laws that you must meet in addition to any state laws in your state include:
-You must not have been convicted of a felony or some misdameanors, especially those dealing with narcotics and/or illegal firearm use.
-You must be 21 years old.
-You must pass a background check administered by the dealer.
Additional laws in most states include taking a written safety test, a waiting period of some point after purchasing the gun, and a demonstration that you know how to use the gun.

Most states (40 and counting) are using the NICS system on computer to check criminal records for hand gun purchases. You can buy a .22 fairly easy but a silencer will be harder. May be a good idea to have some handgun training or some manuals, maybe join a recognized shooting range.

The handgun isn't registered on your father. Colorado has no registration. The Federal babies Handgun secure practices Act limits possession and possession of handguns to a very few circumstances. i think that's legal which you will very own it on your very own property in accordance to federal regulation. i think you will possibly be able to desire to posses written permission from a verify or parent to very own a handgun. you ought to locate the Act and study it and probable seek for suggestion from with a legal professional. IANAL. Colorado might have further rules that would forestall you from possessing it on your very own property. some states have rules scuffling with minors from having access to firearms. you won't be able to very own a handgun except you inherit it in case you're under 18.

A suppressor will require an impossible-to-obtain federal permit and unless you're James Bond, I wouldn't bother even trying. Owning a handgun and carrying it, require you researching your state and local regulations. In our state you need first a local permit and a state permit. Remember there is a big distinction between owning and carrying. Concealed carrying is a very serious business and ignorance of the law, could cost you jail time.

Silencers, or sound suppressors, are absolutely illegal. For handgun laws in your jurisdiction, check with town or city authorities.
