They sure can, as long as they meet age and medical requirements. Contact a flight school at your local airport. Most people start up the ladder as a private pilot, then they go to instrument ratings, multi-engine, then to jets. Typically it is a very orderly progression.
If you are wealthy enough there are Universities that have commercial pilot programs. One of them is Emery, I think, but the spelling could be botched.
BTW, this is not an unusual profession for a woman. I was involved with the A10 aircraft. There were several women in the field. The Air Force has countless women pilots as does the Navy. The Army uses primarily helicopters but I have met women in those ranks as well.
Bottom line, if you want to be a pilot, there a number of things that can stop you, but gender will not prevent you from realizing that goal.

Many are. Listen to air traffic some day and you'll hear them flying the big jets. Women are fighter pilots too.
I believe the first female f14 pilot was lost in a landing accident, she lost an engine on short finals. If you aren't within dead stick range of the flight deck in an f14 with an engine out your only option is to eject, without power you fall, with power you don't have enough rudder authority to avoid spinning in. She didn't eject.

Yes, girls can be pilots. The best pilots are women, they handle G-forces better and have better reaction times.
Get good in math and science, and stay physically fit. The easiest way to get in is to go to a military branch, but only 1 in 100 make it to pilot training. I would suggest getting into college and going to ROTC. I liked Air Force ROTC and it is possible to be a female pilot in the Air Force, they appreciate the fact that women have an edge too.

I answered a similar question for another young lady a day or two ago. One of my favorite pilots is a lady. She and her husband are both captains for Continental.

Hell yes! If you really want to, go for it!
Private lessons are VERY expensive, so try and join the air force if you are serious. They train you and pay you! But there are stupid wars on at the moment so yeah you might have to serve.
