I've been trying to get in shape. The exercise is going great, but eating right really stinks. Around an hour or two after I eat dinner I start getting this urge to rummage through the kitchen and scarf down everything! Help!

You need to break the sugar habit/addiction.

First, take a look at what you eat for your dinner. Are you getting enough to eat? Enough protien, enough of the right kind of carbs?
Any refined carbs will translate into sugar in your body. You may not know that high sugar in your bloodstream causes your pancreas to release high levels of insulin, which in turn quickly reduces the sugars and causes you to go into a "slump" energy-wise. This in turn, causes you to crave more sugar. It's a vicious cycle!

To break that cycle, go for natural sugar along with a protien to slow down absorbtion. My favorite in this category is 2% cottage cheese mixed with either canned pear or canned peaches packed in their own juices NOT sugary syrup.

Another evening snack would be a baked apple with a small wedge of cheddar cheese. It is amazing how satisfying combining a little natural unrefined sweet with protien is.

Try it. You will like it.

I did a search and found this website for other low-sugar desserts that might help you avoid true junk food.

If you eat foods with a high glycemic index and glycemic load (GI/GL) it causes a big spike of blood sugar immediately after you have eaten. Soon after the sugar spike disappears you start to feel hungry again.
If you eat foods that have a low glycemic index/load, then the nutrients in your food pass into your blood stream at a much lower rate and that big spike in blood sugar is avoided. Go to a web-site where the GI/GL numbers for different foods are listed and select what you eat from the low numbered foods. One site that I use is:
http://parks.co.la.ca.us/pdfFiles/HPpdf/Diabetes%20Information%20and%20Glycemic%20Index%20spreadsheet/Glycemic%20Index%20of%20870%20foods%20by%20Rick%20Mendosa.pdf
When you eat a low GI/GL diet you do not feel hungry for a long time from finishing your meal.
Baked beans on REAL (some bakers produce bread that looks like wholemeal but it really is coloured white bread) wholemeal or whole grain bread will see you through to lunchtime.
Change your diet and your eating habits will change accordingly. Good luck.

I know it is very hard. I was the same way. What I did was kept hard candy if you are craving sweets because it is way better for you, and the craving eventually goes away. With chips and things like that I ate carrot sticks instead of chips for a crunchy alternative. Also try a spoonful of crunchy peanut butter if it persists. I hope I helped with the question.

your get that hungry because the healthy food your probly eating, isnt all that healthy and mostly a marketing scam to target health conscience customers to pay more money for a sticker slapped on it and having less food. either that or your not eatin enough during the dinner for some reason, a reason being health food that is a small plate, but "natural", so eat as you normaly would and dont malnourish yourself

Stop eating it, and in a week or so you won't want it anymore. It's called willpower. Do you want to be fat all of your life?
