Is it rational to believe that Christians are harming society with their beliefs?
I really haven't seen any evidence of this. A lot of Christians in our society actually do a lot of good. Think about all of the Christian churches that have programs that are beneficial to society. For example, many homeless shelters and places that feed the hungry are managed by Christians. What are Christians doing that is so harmful to society?
You could easily use the same argument to say that Islams, Jews, Hindus, etc. are causing harm to society, but is that really a rational thing to say? Many psychology studies show that people who have spiritual beliefs are actually happier and healthier than people who don't.

You're right. People like to express things that they perceive as bigger than themselves in order to grow in courage. It's not wrong on a personal level, and in that way I think it would be moving to see people stick to the "faith" even if the church said it was a lie. So personally I don't think it is wrong for anyone, no matter what they believe, it is only wrong for organizations that attempt to control the entire world.
But it's a good thing that even though christianity is the biggest religion in the world, it has so many different sects that it will never unite itself.

I will believe (I'm a christian).
I'm not catholic.
Compare when Jesus was part of the US and after He was "removed".
In schools gum chewing, talking to neighbor in class would get you a paddling.Smoking might get you expelled.
Today (paddling is banned) kids shoot each other.Any religion can be taught (except Jesus).Young girls can get an abortion without a parent knowing or consenting. The Boys Scouts (not a govt organization) is pushed to accept homosexuals.Kids cuss their parents.Christians used to be respected (Now their mocked and told to accept anything said about them.Christians are then told everyone has free speech but not them.) A person who has never been a christian is not an authority of christian faith. The US use to be the most prosperous country in history.

You believe in reason, right? I bet you believe in stuff like democracy, in human rights, in logic...each of those things is, at the heart, an irrational belief. You think they are rational, because they make your life work. And I also think they are useful and beneficial, in many circumstances. Others also find value in belief in religion, it makes sense within their paradigm. Look at Foucault and Derrida (philosopher-rhetoricians, who were by no means Christian) sometime before you naturally assume that logic and reason have some inherent value that is superior to other ways of deciphering the world. I also agree that certain kinds of faith are extremely destructive. But I think that so-called "reason" can do the exact same thing, in that reason can be used to destroy the material lives of other humans. Think back to slavery times, when it was rational and logical to place "inferiors" into bondage...key, intelligent scientists could even prove it.
To use a Christian metaphor, be careful about removing the speck in your friends eye before you remove the log in your own.

How can YOU be Soooooo sure that Jesus isn't real HUH???
So you're claiming that you know EVERYTHING now are you?
Just because you don't see it, it doesn't mean that it's not there! You know that atoms exist...but no one can see them
you know that the wind is there...but you can't see it.
How can YOU know that 'harm is done to society by people who advocate irrational faith'
give me some proof, not your un- informed opinion!
if everyone believed in Jesus and followed His teachings, there would be no war, no starving ppl, no murder, no hate, no violence....
even ppl who do not beloev in Him still follow His commandmets, but they don't realise it.
if you are nice to someone, you are doing what Jesus said.
YOU do not hold infinait knowledge. YOU do not understand everything that happens on this planet
NEITHER DO I and im not pretending that I do
COZ I DONT

I would rather believe there is a Jesus and live a good life, love and help others, have morals, raise my kids to be good people... and die to find out that there is no Jesus than to live without being the person I could be, and be evil, wicked and wild and die and find out there is a Jesus.
Im a happier person believing in Jesus

As Christian I believe in Jesus because he is a role model that I accept in my life. Asking someone to stop believing in their role model is a bit obsured wouldn't you agree? Now, I am not saying that I can make a blind man see, but I love living life guided by his principles and love the challenge of trying my best to stay within those guidelines that Christ has helped to set and affirm. To be honest, Jesus wouldn't rise from the dead and "Scream at them to stop this silly religion" because it is not silly to be guided by principles of goodness. To be a true christian (in my eyes) doesn't mean that you attend church on Sundays and then go out and live in sin. A good christian may not even go to church, but rather read the bible for their own personnal knowledge and guidence. The history encapsuled within the biblical writings are wonderful in helping us to feel good about who we are and what we do. I don't get tired of thanking God for all the goodness that I have been granted, nor do I get tired of asking God for guidence and to help me understand what he intends me to do for him day after day. I do not go to church, but I study my bible, believe in Jesus as the son of God, try my best to obey the laws of God, and seek the truth of his words and therefore not just in the readings as dictated by a King (James), but in all the scriptures that are uncovered and published. Let's face it, King James was just that, a King and I am sure that he had an agenda himself, therefore as a good Christian we must question and at the same time respect the lessons and their inturpritations (SP) and try our best to continue to understand the word of God as preached by his son Jesus.
I too once thought like you, and then I found God and Jesus, the funny thing is when I found them in my heart, I wasn't even looking. I hope he blesses you one day as he has me.
Best of luck brother..................

enable me introduce a clean theory to you. it truly is stated as the Consttitution of america. That noble record is the rule of thumb of regulation in this u . s . and we stay our lives concern to its prescription. between the failings set forth, contained in the structure, by technique of the Founding Fathers, is that Congress ( the authorities) shall no longer set up a faith or religions ( Freedom of and from faith in different words). the concept is to limit the authorities from making absolutely everyone persist with a particular faith. colleges are governmental establishments funded by technique of the taxpayers. Attendance in college is comulsory at particular a lengthy time period. subsequently, if a baby who isn't of the Christian faith became compelled to partake in or maybe sit down there even as christian prayers were recited, it may be compelling him to participate in a non secular observance. in addition, to ask him to leave even as such facilities are occurring could violate his rights. could you experience more suitable positive if we held multi denominational prayers in college? First, because they are the most populous, lets have Christian prayers. Then, we may have easily everyone pray in Hebrew Then we may have easily everyone say Muslim Prayers -on our knees obviously Then, only in case there have been Hindus lets ------- you do not dig that huh? i did not imagine so. it truly is why the Supremes determined that prayers do no longer belong in colleges. it truly is also why we've church homes for prayer. sometime you ought to envision for your self... it truly is the structure of america of united statesa. and it truly is a impressive record EDIT TO SAMANTHA STICKERS Sweetie, talk about bigots, you're taking the cake. You assume that the questioner is a Republican - why? i'm a lifelong Republican and am likely a damned web site more suitable attentive to the structure than you and characteristic likely accomplished some distance more suitable for my u . s . than you ever will. only for the hell of it I too am a Jew and spent maximum of my existence in NYC. Being a liberal Jew isn't a declare to repute. neither is being judgemental

I'm a christian & we're not afraid to stop believing, we just won't. Once you experience God in any way, you will never want to give that up, but you have to be willing to accept God in your heart & believe that He is real. It's called faith. God is real folks, believe it or not, it's your choice. I just feel really bad for those who will never experience a life that is blessed by God. You don't know what you're missing! God is good!

What makes you think Christians are supernatural beings without frailty's and weaknesses like everyone else ? The only difference between Christians and others is that they have the knowledge and conviction that their savior, no matter how weak they are, remains solidly grounded, and will remain faith full to them no matter how many times they slip. Great, huh !!??
