Dress comfortably but conservative. You can wear any darker color, but not necessarily all black. I wouldn't wear jeans just for the benefit of all the family etc. It shows that you care if you show up looking understated yet neat. ( a button up shirt (3/4 sleeve) with a nice pair of black/dark dress slacks or a skirt.

A viewing is different from the actual funeral. It tends to be a little less formal, and lately, you don't necessarily have to dress in all black. It's a good idea to dress conservatively, though. Basically, if you could wear it to church, or to work in an office, you're good.

You don't have to wear black. Most women wear dress pants or a skirt & a matching blouse or sweater. I was just at a viewing last week & saw people in everything from jeans, khakis, skirts to suits. In the long run, it really doesn't matter what you wear, but that you are there to pay your respects to the person who died and to convey your sympathy to their family.

To my grandmother's I wore a nice beige top with black dress slacks. Don't wear jeans unless you HAVE to. It just feels disrespectful to the family. Like you didn't care enough to get dressed decently.

i personally wouldn't wear jeans but at a viewing you do see all types of outfits.

at the last funeral i went to i wore grey pants and a black sweater.

any color is okay as long as it isn't too loud and fun. you also don't want anything that looks like you are ready for a party. be respectful of the family.

Just dress pants or a skirt with a matching top. Nothing fancy- doesn't have to be black or navy either. Just don't dress like you are off to the mall or to the beach.

I was just at a viewing for the first time. Most of the females wore, khakis and black tops. One woman wore bright pink pants and a black top. Black tops seem like the most standard and the bottoms seem like they can be anything. Most of them were saving dresses for the actual funeral. No tank tops though. Nobody wore anything less than a sleeve. I wore a gray sleeveless dress and I felt kind of awkward. Wish I had a cardigan the cardigan the entire time.

Traditionally, you should wear black. I've seen the dress code bent a bit in recent years, but PLEASE do not show up dressed in jeans or in a really short skirt! Dress conservately and respectfully.
