I was using Peroxyl and saw big improvements in my mouth. But I decided I should make my own peroxide mouthwash as a cost-saving measure. What is the percentage or ratio of hydrogen peroxide to water in the mouthwash? Is there any harm to swishing too much peroxide? Can germs grow resistant to the antiseptic ability of hydrogen peroxide or alcohol?

You can use a 10% ratio to water for a rinse and it must be refrigerated if you make a bit and only for about three days is it good. The better way is to use a little every few days as part of the brushing process, put a few drops of peroxide and about half water and then baking soda and a little salt to form a paste and brush with this. Then use a regular toothpaste most of the time. It will irritate the mouth if you use it too often. It's not good to use the RX type all the time either, usually it is prescribed for a period of time before a gum treatment or even after sometimes but usually not long term. Good luck.

The amount of hydrogen peroxide in mouthwash is about 5-8%.

The only grade of hydrogen peroxide recommended for internal use is 35% Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide, which must be properly diluted down to 3% with water.

However, there are rumors circulating that hydrogen peroxide causes cancer, but I don't think I believe that.
