Use the sticker inside the door - always use the VEHICLE MANUFACTURER's recommended pressure. The tyre manufacturer doesn't know the make and weight of car. The pressure listed on the tyre's sidewall is the maximum pressure the tyre can handle before becoming dangerous. 30-32 psi is a good approximation, but all cars are different, depending on their weight on the tyres (my ex-wife's 91 Ford Probe needed 32 psi in the front tyres, but only 29 psi in the rear - whereas my current 01 Ford Focus takes 30 psi all round.) Using the max pressure listed on the side will wear out the middle of the tread very quickly, give you a very bumpy ride, and greatly reduced traction - stopping and turning can become a real problem.

Okay this takes some doing but it is well worth the trouble. To get the maximum use and life out of your tires here it is.

Take a grease pencil or paint stick and make a line across the tire. Make sure to put it on the sidewall a little so you know where the line was. Drive the car about 10 feet and check the line. If the line is gone in the middle then you have to much air. If the line is gone on the outside edges then you don't have enough air. When the wears evenly then you are just right. Check the pressure at point and write it down. Remember you will lose on average about a pound a month so check them. You will get better performance and mileage with properly inflated tires. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Usually inside the car door has the reccommended specs from the factory, for the tires that come with the car. If you've never put new tires on the car you could go with these numbers. The tire itself will have the maximum allowed pressure before the tire explodes so don't fill them up to whatever it says the max pressure is. I keep mine around 35psi....

You have to follow your owners manual or the label, if you find it. They place those labels somewhere on the front door opening usually. I've seen them inside glove box or on the visor on some cars, too.
DO NOT follow what is on the side of the tire - this is the maximum pressure tire can stand. In most cases you'll get the bad grip and high tire wear if you inflate tires that much.

Sheeesh! Check the owner's manual, the door jamb or inside the glove box for the recommended pressure for the car. NEVER inflate the tires to the maximum indicated on the sidewalls....

in case you look on the sidewall of the tire, you'll discover the optimal inflation stress listed on the tire. maximum tires are rated at 35psi, inspite of the truth that some are larger at the moment. this inflation stress assumes the tire is fastened on a rim of its layout width, hence 6". what you want is for the tread to be flat hostile to the floor even as the tire is inflated. this stress could properly be everywhere from 26-optimal inflation stress. this determination helps a good compromise between journey, dealing with, placed on, and gasoline economic equipment.

Check both the side of the drivers door and the tire itself. They should both say the same thing. If not, go by what the tire says.

the tire tells you the max pressure this does not mean youhave to run that pressure
if you carry a load then the max is best
if its a P metrice size tire you should runthem about 3-4 psi less then the max

Best bet is to check with your local tyre dealer as different brands have different constructions and require a different pressure. As for what is stamped on side wall is usually a guide for max pressure for max load rating hope this helps.
