I have had a bad tooth for a few months.Last night my cheeck swelled a little. This morning the whole right side of my face was and is still swollen.Even my right eye lids are swollen.Im running below normal tempatures and high fevers.I went to the doctor today. The doc said it is a infection in my gums. She said my blood pressure is too low,my heart rate is too fast and with my temps being too low to too high that I have toxins in my blood.I was givin a antibiotic shot and percription for antibiotics. Is toxins in the blood stream the same as blood poisoning? I did not ask her because I never thought of the question until tonight.I feel like if I have the flu.Fever(when not below normal)chills, weakness, aches and pains.

Well Dr Matt,it is so ovious that you are anything except a doctor.First of all I really dont need to explain nothing to you but I dont have insurance.I have 6 minor kids who are not eligable for insurance. So I would much rather spend my money on their medical bills and medicine then on myself.Do you know of a dentist who would see me for nothing? Nope. But a ER would and did.I do the only thing I can do and thats take care of the kids first.

DARLENE,
WHETHER YOU CALL THIS BOOD POISONING OR AN ACCUTE BACTERIAL INFECTION MAKES NO DIFERENCE, THE RESULTS ARE THE SAME EITHER WAY. THESE TYPES OF INFECTIONS ARE POTENTIALLY LIFE-THEATENING. THEY CAN KILL YOU.
YOU HAVE A TOOTH ABCESS AND MUST SEE A DENTIST A.S.A.P.

I think you have a periapical absses (sorry for my english). I dont think its a gum problem. Its a tooth problem. In such cases I give a combination of two antibiotics augmentin 2gr per day and flugil (an antibiotic usually used by gynecologist very rare for dentists and very effective for severe conditions) I can also think that the tooth is an upper one. If your condition is not stabilased (not getting worse and after 12 to 24 hours start getting better) cosider going to the hospital. now concernig your question yes blood poisoning and toxins in the blood is about the same thing. the exact ansver depends how you define the word "toxin" and the word "poison".

So, get to a dentist! You obviously didn't go today. Don't hope that antibiotics alone will settle your condition.
There is no valid dental/medical reason why you can't receive dental treatment now and get your condition resolved. Do you use antibiotics for an infected splinter or just remove it ASAP? Here you have an infected tooth (NOT gums) and you go to a medico?!
If you delay again, then the antibiotics will lose their effectiveness and you will end up in hospital.

The antibiotic should set you right.

When we have an infection, or immune system is depressed and we are more vulnerable to other infections, like the flu.

Its possible you have a combination.

I would call my GP for advice.

Yes, it's sepsis (blood poisoning). Continue to take your antibiotics. If you get worse call the doctor. Your antibiotics may need to be increased or changed. If you faint or get dizzy you may need to go to the emergency room.

yes it is basically the same thing. Your blood has infection in it which can be toxic if left untreated. They call it septic. As long as you caught it in time you should be fine though.
