I think it should spend more if it wants to keep ahead of China...

Thank the Republican party for always overspending on the defense budget.

I served in the Navy during the Clinton administration, and it was fine. The repubs who walk around saying that Clinton destroyed the military because of reduced spending have not a clue.

Defense wins championships. We are champions of the world!!!!

Compared to GDP we don't overspend. Also, a big part of what we spend on "defense" is paid for veterans benefits. In other countries these benefits would already be part of the budget and fall under social spending. Think of health care for soldiers on active duty. In countries like France that would be part of the national health care budget. Here it is considered defense spending.

When you start to look at what actually gets spent on equipment and soldiers we really don't sped as much as most people think we do.

The bible shows that a country with a strong military will be able to keep the peace with its neighbors. I believe our military should be stronger. However, the budget would have to increase for that. The military budget will roughly equal what businesses get taxed on their profits.
