your safer in Bangkok then in New York City, Washington D.C, a English Football game, and Paris. However never try to enter a bus with one seat left and 10 Thais wanting it.

Frankly within Bangkok, you just cannot feel any security threat. Most incidents/accidents are largely in the southern states of Yala, Narathiwat and Pattani. The Islamic extremists are spreading regular violence within these regions and occassionally spilling over into nearby Songkhla.

The CNS/Govt had been expressing concerns about possible extremist activities in Bangkok but in the same breath said it is under control. They had merely explain for the increase in military taking on more posts in the Govt, to my personal feel.

So if you are thinking of going to Bangkok, this should be alright. Life goes on the same way in that city all this time, even after the New Year bombings which were more politically motivated than anything else.

Bangkok is as safe as any other major city. The only tension is down near Malaysia where Moslem terrorists are active. In fact, I'll be working in Samut Sakhon (just SW of Bangkok) and staying in Bangkok next week, and have no concerns at all. While terrorists can strike anywhere - this is part of what makes them terrorists - Bangkok should actually be less of concern than many other locations.
