If he wont be still i wouldnt try to pull it off with tweezers or with your hands. You dont want the ticks mouth parts to stay inside the lip because an infection could occur. What you could do, is get you some flea/tick spray at petsmart (adams flea/tick spray works well) then spray some onto a qtip and rub it close to the ticks head. Such a small amount will not harm your dog if ingested, and it should kill the tick almost immediately, causing it to fall off. Good luck!

Any puppy needs to have somebody there for it. From the sounds of it, while your living quarters will be large enough house-wise, you DON'T sound like you will be there for your dog enough of the day to make sure she gets the exercise she will need. I suggest you find somebody to stay with your dog a few of the hours that you are out. If you can't do this, be prepared for your puppy to get bored and potentially chew on and destroy items of furniture or other household items that puppies shouldn't play with. Puppies get bored easily, and for most of the week you aren't going to be there to give her the good walk she'll need (a couple of walks for an hour every day, or a good and long walk once a day.) A dog walker or dog sitter is going to be what's needed here, or an informal dog sitter like a house-mate. Discipline will also be key. If you haven't already started to train her, I really suggest you do so as soon as possible. Basic obedience like the sit and the lie down. The earlier you start with a dog like that, the better off you'll be. Be firm, but don't be mean. Reward good behaviour and take it in stages. (For instance, the first time your puppy sits on command, offer praise and play. The second time, wait a brief second, then praise and play. Eventually you should be able to tell your dog to sit, and she should stay in that position until you allow her to move.)

The cigarette idea is a good one but if you don't have a smoker nearby, try to have someone hold the dog down, light a match and then blow it out. Quickly touch the still hot match to the end of the tick and hold it there until it backs out. If this doesn't work, a trip to the vet would be wise.

It's going to hurt when the tick is removed and he's already getting defensive about it. I agree with many who thought you should take him to the vet. They will be much more able to safely remove all of the tick with as little pain as possible.

Do it when you are bathing him. My dog usually doesnt like to have her tick removed but I accidentally found out shes more behave and willing while taking a bath. They are more easy to remove too.You can do it with tweezers or better with a gloved hands. Some times dogs panic when they see tweezers or anything being used on them. Try talking to him to distract him while removing the tick.

ouch... sounds painful.... i guess many people holding him and good pair of tweezers! Try to get it from the head, grabbing the body sometimes leaves the head behind. I actually like this product:

pretty easy to use, but is not like you can wait for delivery. And ask your vet about a good flea/tick preventative. Hope your dog is vax against lyme disease.... Good luck!

well if its so larger tick i will try to use a tissus and put it out there or you can try to take the dog to a closer pet shop and have them to remove it from youre dog mouth if you dont want to touch it . maybe they can help you and pull the tick out so that you wouldnt need to do it yourself . next time you should always check up youre dog for beingin out side alone see what he s eaten from off the yard or floors .

Don't apply anything to the tick. You don't want to aggravate it. This could cause it to spit out toxins into your dog. Try to pull it straight out with tweezers, then dab some alcohol on it. I have lyme disease from tick bites. Ticks carry many diseases. I get all my information from a specialist that treats this disease.

Tweezers and lots of help to hold him down!
Just make sure you get the ENTIRE thing then take him to the vet. Ticks carry lots of diseases so you will want your vet to take a look and maybe get some preventative shots!
