Who told you that the Quran is "very simple to understand"?

Many people are having very hard time to connect ends together in regards to contradicting verses about Jihad, the place where sun sets, the names of Jesus and Mary...etc

NO.
The Qur'an is vague in a lot of ways. Most Extremists are taking their cues from the Hadith, a series of commentaries on the Qur'an. In Islam, the Qur'an is considered the ultimate authority, but the Hadith is a close second. I believe the extremists are simply taking the Hadith to a much more, well, extreme level than was intended. Because the Qur'an is so vague, it's open to a lot of interpretation. The Prophet, to me, seemed much more relaxed and open than the Extremists would have you believe. He prized peace, for example.

The brand of Islam we in the west are most familiar with was started in Saudi Arabia / Iran and financed by the government, schools have been opened to teach it. It is known as Wahebi (not sure of the spelling, exactly), and is very, very anti-West. This, however, is not traditional Islam, and I would even go so far as to call it "false" Islam. This is the background of most Islamic extremists, and should not be taken as a true interpretation of the Qur'an OR the Hadith.

The Quran is simple to understand but also if u dun fully grasp the meaning of it, the it could lead to diff thinkings and understandings especially when u put politics into religions and use it as ur weapon against sumtin and to influence ppl which is wrong and forbidden.Think about it...there also been extreme jews in Israel and extreme Christians, so does the bible or the torah also means violence and ppl who r at peace wif the 2 books respectively are having the same prob as well?? Understand what the Quran has to say b4 proving a theory base on hearsays or unknown sources!

The Sunnah or Hadith consists of the teachings, sayings, and actions of Prophet Muhammad. This information was meticulously reported and collected by his Companions. It is essentially an elaboration of the Qur'anic verses that shows how they are to be implemented in one's daily life ALLthe true muslims agree about that

do you really believe that? moderates are just what they are, moderates. extremists are usually the misinformed and brainwashed, under-educated shmo's who thinks there are 71 virgins that looks like rosie o'donnel waiting for them. these extremists are no different than little toddlers who throws tantrums, when they dont get what they want.

they can be reading a hustler magazine and will still think the same way.

That's one way to look at it...

Another way is that the moderate Muslims get it and the Extremists are the ones that abuse it.

if the bible is easy to understand, is it safe to assume that the extremist christians are reading it correctly and Jesus really DOES endorse capital punishment, war, cutting social programs to help the less fortunate and ostracizing everyone who doesn't fit into their tight little box?
