I presume that your family physician has prescribed the sleep medication. Let him know that the medications are not controlling the problem and request that you be evaluated in a sleep clinic by polysomnography. A neurologist will evaluate your condition and prescribe medication to control your condition. You may be referred to a neuropsychiatrist who specializes in determining medications for neuologic problems.

You say that your doctor has you on Ambien and Xanax to "help," but I personally think that they are what's causing your problem. You're taking too many benzos (the class of drug that both Ambien and Xanax are in.) I don't know why your doctor would give you both...that is a very strong and possibly dangerous combination. I have been on both Xanax and Ambien separately and I can't even imagine the combination of both. Ambien can sometimes cause hallucinations, lapse in memory and bizzare actions (maybe you know what I'm talking about). I think you should definitely talk to your doctor about this. Or get a second opinion from another doctor on the medications and dosage you are on. Or just take the ambien or the Xanax at night, not both. I have done some strange things on Ambien alone, so I can imagine that if I added Xanax to the combination, it might've been worse. Just my two cents. Good luck.

instead of pumping you full of meds, which by the way only creates a chemical imbalance later, you should do a sleep study. or start camering youself at night.
i use to sleep drive and couldn't even find my way back home. i would find my guns an knife left out.
but one time, i called a friend of mine in mysleep, which i actually did alot, and this time, the voice mail picked up.
i found out that i thought i was being chased. i could hear myself running around my house slamming doors, panicing like someone was in the house.
i was just scared to be alone.
now that i am married, i have my husband here all the time. i don't do that anymore.
occasionally , i cook or clean in my sleep. i know this because i wake up and all my laundry is done, the dishes are clean, everything is spotless. and sometimes there is extra food in the fridge, still in the pan.
my husband says that when that happens, he notices its when something disrupts my sleeping like the cat or something. but what man would stop his wife from cooking and cleaning.
i use to work at a doctors office and trust me, you may not need meds, they are even more addictive than pain pills. doctors just give them to you for a temp solution. eventually they suggest you up the meds.
if you want alternative solutions, tell your doctor. they have them, just most people are after pills.
i refused meds because my doctor said that if i took the pills before bed (which is usually suggested) that my body would be intoxicated, i would cause more harm. he told me that my brain would sleeping, and my body would be awake and i couldn't control it then.
they are sleeping aid anyway, not sleepwalking aids.
hope this helps

As a healthcare provider in an office with two other doctors, we decided about a year ago that we would not order Ambien, due to the sleepwalking side effects. We also do not order
xanax due to this drug's addictive properties. There are better choices in medications.

ambian CR will make nightmares and sleepwalking much much worse.
Ask for a referral to a sleep specialist and have a sleep study done. Most insurances pay for it and it is very helpful is finding out what is going on in your brain while you are sleeping.

Night Terrors. Go to the right doctor, therapist, counsellor, psychologist etc till you find help that actually helps you. If they do not work even after a while with your docs supervision, then you have to try something else. Meditation classes can help as you can learn to meditate before sleeping. Good luck xox.

well honestly im not a pro, but I think you have a intense case of Sleepwalking. At night when you dream your body does the same things. For example, a men dream he was going to the bathroom he is accualy going to the bathroom. Sometimes dreams do that. Some cases people walk that is common in Sleepwalking because walking is a dominat trait in dreams. Feel free to email me.... It can also be a Epielsy.
Also it depends on whats going on in ur mind what are you thinking, what to do, something to do......

ask your doctor to change the ambien to trileptal. Your thought process is going on as you sleep. You need a med that shuts down your brain so you can sleep. I was taking ambien and started sleep walking. This med is used for convulsions but it stops the thinking process. I've been on it for 4 months now and am happy that my doc switched me. I hope you find going to sleep a peaceful things again.

It sounds like night terrors to me (I'm not a doctor). I would look up information on night terrors and see what you think and then see a physician that specializes in that condition if you agree that that is what you are having.

This is weird because that only happens if you take a nap before dusk. But I'm thinking, convulsion, maybe?
