If you are a US citizen, you can submit the passport application and pay an extra amount for faster processing. This allows it to be done in about a week. More details and information are at the US state department website, www.state.gov.

Here's the US Government website about passports. This link is about getting passports for children under age 14, including newborns.

Expect to wait longer than usual because of the high demand at this time of year.
Good luck!
P.S. Newborns do need passports, just as adults, if you're traveling out of the country by air.

You can walk it through if you have a ticket leaving within two weeks. You need the birth certificate. There are also services that will walk it through for you. Check out the state department web page. It costs more, though.
