He is 6 months old and was diagnosed with a liver shunt a few months ago. Yesterday he was vomiting what looked like spit. Today he just keeps whining and wants to keep drinking alot. He is also wanting to go outside alot - he normally sleeps in our bedroom at night but he is really whining and barking if I take him in the bedroom. Its 12:30 am where I am and I have no access to a vet right now I dont know what to do for him - is he going to die? He is whining so much. Please help.

Call your vet. Even though they arent open, they should have information on how to get emergency after hours care on their voice mail. Knowing that your dog has a preexisting condition, I would utilize this emergency service!

what you need to do is look in the phone book for an emergency clinic that is open 24hrs. They are expensive, but it could save your dogs life. Any issue with the liver is not good, and if he is vomiting what looks like spit, it is most likely bile which is found in the liver. I wouldnt recommend giving any kind of drugs at home without talking to a vet. Even a phone call to the emergency clinic will be better than nothing, maybe they can help.

Is he able to urinate the water he is drinking when he goes out? And is he eating ok? I do not get exactly what was diagnosed outside of something to do with his liver, but apparently serious.

I understand about small town vets. Some here do not. Have you tried looking up his home # to call??! I sure would. He may be out on a Saturday night but give it a try. And keep trying the clinic #. I assume there is one clinic there.

Is the pup's tummy swollen and firm to indicate he is retaining the water? Probably causing pain. I know I would have him up in the bed with me to comfort and keep close eye on. Hope the vet calls. I don't know what else to tell you. Sorry

Don't count on much sleep tonight!

If he was diagnosed a few months ago with a liver shunt, why haven't you had the surgery to have it taken care of? If you don't get it fixed up, yes, he is going to die.
