There are several things that could be the problem here. Head lice, dandruff, sebhorreic dermatitis or psoraisis ... I know I've had scabs on my head before, but that was from hives. Because your scalp is flaking, I don't think it's hives.
There are shampoos (readily available at Wal*Mart) to treat all of these things. Rid and Nix both make lice shampoos, Head 'N Shoulders or Selsun Blue is great for dandruff, and Neutrogena T-Gel is highly recommended for dermatitis/psoraisis. If none of these work for you, go see a dermatologist.

Yes, it's called dandruff...could be so bad that your scalp is now infected as eczema. My son had this same problem. I took him to a dermatologist for his scalp which is your symptoms to the T...he prescribed Nizoral. Which is now over the counter at walmart for $7-9. Use every other day. Leave on for 5 minutes. On the off days use pantene. Just wash and rinse...no need to leave pantene on. Hope this helps. GL

There are many things it could be. Washing your hair in hot water, using chemicals on your head, and wearing your hair up all the time could cause it to itch. But other possibilities could be are ringworm of the scalp or psoriasis. If it's really bad you should have it checked. Things like this are usually not your fault they just happen.

Do you know what psoriasis is? You might have it. My brother has psoriasis ( I don't) but when I think I'm getting dandruff (And I get the itchy scalp too) I use Selsun Blue. You use it at least 2 times a week, but the first time you'll notice it gets better.

I've experienced some of the same things. use a moisturizing shampoo and if it doesnt go away then see a dr. it might be something else or you might need perscription strength shampoo. whatever you do, try not to scratch because it will only make your head hurt and skin flake more.

Are the scabs kinda white?
If they are you may have psoriasis. My mom has it. Its nothing that bad just go to a skin doctor and if it is psoriasis they will give you some medicine.
If I were you id just do some quick research on it! :]

I had that and it turned out to be eczema. I got a cream that I use once a week and it doesn't bother me anymore. It's on the base of my skull, and at least it's somewhere hidden and not all over my body or face.
