If you are a person who is into being progressively entrapped by a indulgent lifestyle, then I guess Crowley would be intriguing and possibly someone to model life after..it is wise to look at his last years of life though, he ended up destitute, diseased, and totally ravaged by his hedonist lifestyle.

Hence he proved the truth of GOD'S WORD-"as ye sow, that also shall ye reap"

There was a period where Materialism was encouraged as an antidote to Socialism. This is the same reason that Ayn Rand was so heavily promoted.
There is a constant theme of self centered individualism that runs through all of their works. This is the Capitalist ideal. Every body for themselves, screw the unfortunate!
Me into the lifeboats, forget about the women and children, and to hell with everybody else.

You will also notice that the writers of this stuff had crappy lives with few friends.
