I honestly think my cat is on the verge of dying. He is very weak, he won't eat, he's throwing/spitting up, he's cold, and stiff. I'm not sure if he is sick or not because he just got over a runny nose. I'm keeping him warm by putting a blanket over him. I plan on taking him to the vet tomorrow. What is happening? Any advice?

Please don't tell me I'm not doing a good job at taking care of it and don't say I don't play with it because if I wasn't doing a good job you think I wouldn't have puttin a blanket over him??

It could be a number of things. I suggest finding an all night pet emergency room. Kitty sounds like he isn't doing very well! Get it help IMMEDIATELY! Google 24 hour pet facilities in your area or call your vet, on their answering machine it should give you a number to call in emergencies. I think this would be classified as an emergency!

In the mean time, force a little water down it, you don't want him to get dehydrated!

My cat did something simular to this, 2 days later he died. Turns out he had some kitty disease he contracted when he ran out of the house 2 years earlier (FIP). One day he was fine, the next he was dead! I look back now, and realize that even though it came on very quickly, there were signs I should have seen! In this case there was nothing I could have done for him, but I still feel responsible for not seeing the signs ahead of time!

Please be sure to have ALL of your pets VACCINATED! I made this mistake once, it wont ever happen again!

My cat was going through this in the last few days, I took it to the vet without an appointment, (though, after I asked them what I should do), and the Doctor did a diagnosis, and took samples of blood and urine for laboratory analysis...The next day they had a sheet with several test result numbers, showing elevated liver enzymes, for some reason or another, so we let the vet take care, with intravenous supply of water, electrolytes, nutrients, and some medication to help the liver return to normal. Its making a good recovery, gained strength and alertness...hopefully it'll continue to improve

Your cat might have the same or similar problem, and liver problems can happen from poison or something the cat should not eat, but it can also develop from other causes like fat deposits developing in the liver. Let the vet diagnose it and fix it.

PS- I had a cat from the late 1960s to the early 1980's that at the end had feline leucemia from a virus contamination from other cats. At that time, there was no vaccine to prevent it. Extra symptoms that would indicate that disease would be massive weight loss becoming bony, severe itching and scratching, and thinning of the hair, hair comes off in clumps or bunches, and panting, shortness of breath, because of the reduced red-blood cell count that in a healthy cat supplies oxygen all around the body efficiently. I hope your cat doesn't have that; The symptoms you mentioned didn't include these extra symptoms, so its a good chance its not leucemia.

Later, if and when you & your vet can bring your cat back to health, make sure you get the feline leucemia vaccine to prevent that atrocious disease.

I am so very sorry for you loss sweetie. I lost my Rocky on March 12th. Did your pet die of kidney/renal failure? Those symptoms you listed are like my Rocky was is why I am asking. In addition, did you know about the petfood recall? I cannot tell you the number of pets dying right now and the past month or so because of this tainted food. If the food was the cause, and you can talk to your vet about it, please join us at yahoo groups menufoodsclassaction. We are trying to get a number of people together for a class action lawsuit.

I am sorry somebody on here was mean saying you weren't taking care of your cat. I am sure you were doing the best you could do. Take care!

This COULD be very serious! Take your cat into the vet as soon as possible!

Could your cat have ate something strange? One of my cats died after showing the same symptoms when he ate a piece of Easter grass from my little step-brother's Easter basket.

Try and keep your cat company. It will make him feel better to have you there with him. Keep him warm and try to get some fluids down him. You can use a syrienge (the small plastic kind used to give medicine to infants) to give him small amounts of water every half hour or so.

The best thing you can do for your kitty right now is keep him hydrated, warm, and as comfortable as possible.

I hope everything turns out all right and your cat gets better soon! Lots of luck!

I am really sorry for your loss. I know what that is like, In January my cat was exhibiting very similar symptoms and we had to put him down. He was 5 months shy of his 20th birthday so we were very lucky to have him as long as we did (I got him for my fifth birthday, we grew up together!)

Your local SPCA will hold a memorial sometime throughout the year (local to me, it is in September) It may be something you want to consider if you want to honor your old friend. Also, the SPCA usually has a grief counselor who can help you deal with the pain, grief and guilt of putting down a pet.

I am so sorry for your loss. When a cat stops eating they are generally on the verge of dying. I hope you will think about getting another pet. ♥

im so sorry your cat passed away, my cat was 18 years old and the same thing happened to him, he would kindda hide, and had almost the same things that your cat had, its really hard to lose a pet, sometimes harder than a person, especially when you really love animals.mine has been gone for almost 2 tears and i still think of him a lot. good- luck...mary

He definitely needs to get to that vet. If you have a hot water bottle or heating pad use it with him, try not to move him much it may be painful. Keep an eye on him when your awake put him on a pillow make hm as comfortable as possible and pray that he makes it to the vet and they help him. I hope he gets to the vet and they help him.

I'm so sorry to hear about your cat passing. At least he was w/you (his mommy) and you were taking good care of him. And he felt your love for him knowing how much you were trying to help him! I'm very sorry for you. Good Luck!

Oh no... I am sooo sorry about your kitty. But I think this is an EMERGENCY situation - your kitty may not be able to wait till the morning. Do get the yellow book and call for an emergency vet.
