there is no puss or anything. it just hurts. my dentist gave me prescription for an antibiotic, but i have not been taking it on a regular basis (it says to take it every 6 hours which is insane considering i have to get up in the middle of the night just to take it!). i have an appointment to have both of them taken out.

I'm not a dentist but I did work for one for 20 yrs. (my father is a retired dentist.) The actual infection in the tooth itself cannot spread to other parts of your body. HOWEVER... the infection in your tooth can get into your bloodstream and make you miserable. It can cause flu-like symptoms and there is a possibility(albeit small) that it could cause a problem with your heart. Long and short of it is this: Go to a dentist and do exactly what he says to treat it. Take your antibiotics like you're supposed to.

Yea, that is nothing to play with. A tooth infection or absess left untreated has been known to kill people.
The infection (untreated) can spread and do unnecessary harm. Get to a dentist!

The poison from the infection can get into your system and make you quite sick. I don't know if it can actually cause an infection in other parts of your body though. Any serious infection of any kind, left untreated, will only get worse. That much I do know. I've had 4 or 5 in my life. One got into the bone of my jaw. You don't want that. Believe me!

yes and yes.
a tooth infection can spread throughout the body, cause septicemia/bacteremia (infection of the blood with bacteria and microbes).
Are you sure that your wisdom teeth are infected? Impaction doesn't mean infection.

any untreated infection can by systemic, meaning, uncontrolled microorganisms at a local infection can travel in the bloodstream where the body will react to fight it thus the fever, andbody aches and pains...but that's how the lymph nodes' role, to filter those microorganisms and try to fight it at that level..thats why when u have infection, u will have inflammed lymph nodes as well, and when that happens, u know that...that infection is getting out of hand

CATHERINE,
AN INFECTION FORM A WISDOM TOOTH OR AN ABCESS CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS AND CAN DEFINITELY SPEAD VIA YOUR BLOOD TO OTHER PARTS OF YOUR BODY, SUCH AS THE BRAIN, LIVER , LUNGS OR KIDNEYS.
IF YOU HAVE AN INFECTED TOOTH YOU MUST SEE A DENTIST A.S.A.P.

Yes. And I don't mean to scare you, but read this recent news article of a boy who died because the bacteria from his tooth travelled to his brain and he died. If you have a problem, go to the dentist!

Yes, into your blood stream and into your brain if it gets really bad and untreated. Get some antibiotics from your dentist or see a oral surgeon!

Yes, it can actually cause death if left untreated. You should see a dentist, or if it is really bad and you can't wait, try the er.
