Please, whatever you do don't give them the finger right back, or beep the horn back at them, or at them at all - as some people are telling you to do. You've just cut off someone and scared the heck out of them - and their reaction was to give you the bird. Giving the peace sign or shrugging your shoulders and mouthing sorry as they pass you in anger is cool, at least it helps to defuse the situation. But beeping at them or giving them back the finger would only make you look like you meant to cut them off or couldn't care less that you did. That can make for a bad situation if the person in back of you is prone to road rage.

The best response is no response. It was an accident, get over it and stop worrying so much about other people's feelings. Cheesed motorist might be armed motorist.

There is no way for the other motorist to understand your hand gesture unless it is the one they threw to you. I have thrown my hand up in a "waving" motion and said "sorry". Knowing they do not hear me but hopefully they know by seeing my hand wave that I know that I done a bad thing.

It replaced into precisely what you mentioned - an twist of fate, this is in comparison to you intentionally tried to reason and twist of fate. Be grateful you DIDNT reason and twist of fate and attempt and pass on and recover from it. study from the experience and allow or no longer this is a reminder which you frequently must be careful while utilising. a woman decrease me off one time and ran me off the line so I confronted her approximately it and she or he actually had no clue that she very almost led to an twist of fate and to make concerns worse, she have been speaking on her cellular while she did it! Me confronting her made ME experience greater desirable and that i'm specific she'll look two times in the previous changing lanes next time! I chosen to confront her instead of record her as i myself could have incredibly somebody did that for me then call the police and record me. So, permit it pass as a lesson-found out and be careful to any extent further, cuz now you be attentive to how rapid and actual injuries can happen...

Since they can't hear you, you have to mime your best apology. When this happens to me I raise one hand up to my head and wave slightly (like "Hey, I'm sorry"), and shrug my shoulders. If they're real close, mouthing the word 'sorry' may also get your intent across.
Doing this may help prevent an escalation of emotions, and provoking someone into doing something that everyone involved would regret. Good luck!

I think just about every driver at one time or another, has accidentally cut someone off. It wasn't intentional, it wasn't planned, it just happens. I know I have....and I've felt awful too.....and it only makes it worse when the person who you cut off gets so pi**ed off about it.
I think about the only thing that can be done, is to just kinda wave back at them while saying sorry outloud. Even though they can't hear you....sometimes just saying it anyway makes you feel better...

My friend gives the peace sign. I usually wave and make a face like I'm sorry, which is what I see most other people do too.

Better to do absolutely nothing. People are insane behind the wheel of a car these days.

i would just do a little wave and if you can mouth the word "sorry!"
you didn't mean to do it and they overreacted so don't stew over it too much longer.
take care,
sd

This is a really good question. There's really not much you can do, because the car's behind you and there's no way to clearly convey your apology.
