My cat Coco, and my male cat JJ , when they start to fight, I always see one of them, fall down on thier side, by the other cat , the one who is just sitting there, I dont think they are playing, and why does my male cat JJ always have to bite my older female coco, by the neck , I thought he would stop, cause I already had him fixed??

My cats do the same, then she will bathe him afterward though. If they aren't hissing or making noises like they are hurting each other, they are probably fine.

They're just being cats, and putting on a "show," trying to emulate their big jungle ancestors!

My two male cats display this same kind of behavior, sometimes with one circling the other, head down, tail lashing, until the attack. Then they roll around and growl and meow until one or the other gets tired of the action and walks away. It does sound as if they are hurting each other, but they are great buddies when they aren't scrapping. Before long, they'll be lying next to each other, grooming and purring.

I think your male cat biting the female is part of a mating ritual, and the lying down, especially showing the belly or throat, is a sign of trust and submission.

Unless they are inflicting damage to each other when they fight, I wouldn't worry about it too much. They're just being cats!

To start the fight and bait the other cat, the one who flops down is taking a submissive posture that the other cat is sure to jump on. Neck biting is what male cats do to the girls. He may be fixed but is still a male.

They are playing but also establishing hierarchy. The cat who nips (bites) and tries to mount the other is establishing its dominance. The cat that lays down on its side is signaling "ok, ok, I give up" - it is the submission position or defensive-submision taken by a cat that is not confident that it will win in an all-out cat fight.

The cat who flops over is going for a more advantageous position in the fight. That cat can use all four paws as weapons, not just two.

your cat is showing it's dominancy and the one that falls down is being submissive. It is telling your other cat that he is the boss . Even when you have two cats living in the same house each cat establishes it's 'place" or territory that is their's and has to remind the other cat of it .

I think its just their way of asserting power over the other one, whether its playacting or not. They will do that when the other is doing something they dont like too, sort of like disciplining the other. It's not necessarily a sexual thing, so will probably continue to some degree.

Laying down in the face of battle (or play battle) is a sign of submission.

As long as no one is bleeding, I wouldnt worry to much about it!
