Do you know what is causing the hives? Make sure she stays away from it. If the benadryl hasn't worked within a half an hour, I would suggest she go to the ER.

Being the most allergy prone person I know, I have to tell you that unless her throat is closing going to the ER is useless. Allergies are exactly that...allergies. I took anantibiotic for too long and develpoed an allergy, and was up all niht itching like I had fleas. I went to work the next day covered in calamine lotion thinking that I had walked into poison ivy without knowing. I had to stop taking all of the medication I was on for major surgery I had, and then restart them all, one by one to figure out which I had become allergic to. I will get golf ball sized hives from too many mosquito bites in the same day. I went to the doctor, and he told me to drink benadryl. I lost time from work, plus my co-pay. If you feel you are developing an allergy, take it slowly. Stay with people who know what's going on and wait it out. Only you can know exactly what's going on with you. A doctor is only going to run tests that take a week to get back, and by then you could be dead.

My daughter used to get hives all the time. Her doctor had to put her on Allegra. Tell your mom that if her throat starts to itch or feels swollen (eyes and tongue too) go to the ER right away. Some allergic reactions can become life threatening.

My daughter gets hives from any milk ingredient. Sometimes they look like a rash, and other times like masquito bites. When they get to look like big masquito bites, quarter size or more or if Benadryl does not work then I would suggest that she goes to the ER.
