You may be thinking of the movie, "Operation Petticoat" (1959) starring Cary Grant and Tony Curtis. In the movie the sub USS Sea Tiger was painted pink because there was not enough red or white primer to paint the boat. They mixed what they had in red and white and ended up with a pink submarine.
The movie was loosely based on the USS Sealion that was sunk in the Phillipines. The idea of the pink submarine was allegedly based on an actual event but the record of what ship that may have been eludes me.

I don't think America won the war for us, it's far from being a simple equation. We were being supplied by the Americans for some time and had lots of American pilots flying with us from the UK before the US officially joined in. We held the line and destroyed the Luftwaffe at a key point though. Not long after that the Germans made a huge tactical mistake by invading Russia, and at the wrong time of year too. The Russians weathered that onslaught with massive loss of military and civilian lives, then counterattacked Germany, eventually pushing them all the way back to Berlin. The real question might be, would Russian Communism be as weak is it is today if it had not had to bow to the NATO (including America) rules of how to split up Germany and the rest of Eastern Europe...

It was actually a MOVIE, titled OPERATION PETTICOAT staring Cary Grand and Tony Curtis. The sub (USS Sea Tiger) accidentally got painted pink because they ran low on red paint and mixed white paint with the red. Check out this page about the movie.
It is possible a sub had the same problem with paint, but it doesn't seem to show up in U.S. Navy history.

Surely you are kidding. No way a sub would have been painted pink. That was way before we were forced to be politically correct with every breath we take. I "ve never head of such !!!
