you are having post-nasal drip. your nose is producing excessive mucous, which is not running out of your nose, but rather down the back of your throat. this is irritating the tissues of your throat.
first, try a decongestant, like sudafed. this will make your nose run temporarily, but it will help get most of the mucous out at once, so it is not a continuous drip.
second, blow your nose, even if nothing comes out. and blow every fifteen minutes or so for a while, to help get the mucous directed out of your nose, instead of down your throat. this is especially important when your decongestant is working.
third, an antihistamine, such as benadryl or claritin will help dry things out, especially if the problem is allergies rather than a cold virus. be aware that benadryl will make you very sleepy.
last, you can gargle with warm salt water to soothe your throat if you like. it will not solve the problem, but it may make your throat feel better for a while.
good luck.

do you smoke? do you drink?
first, don't panic. Drink plenty of water and juices, if it is just a common cold, it will go away in a week. But if your sore throat persists for a month, visit an otolaryngologist (a throat specialist) coz it may be a more serious problem especially if you are a smoker or exposed to smoke from other people around you.

Well, you may have something as a postnasal drip. If it continues to bother you, it's probably worth it to see a doctor, but sounds like a fairly harmless infection (if there's an infection at all) that will pass on it's own, with a postnasal drip.

Well from your symptoms it sounds like you have a virus, not a bacteria. Drink lots of water, I myself drink peppermint tea, and get plenty of rest. You may even want to take zinc lozenges. Feel better.

Are you coughing up mucus? If so, my bf had the same symptoms. It was an upper respiratory illness.

you know seeing a Doctor might be a really good thing to do. None of us here can relly tell you what is wrong, and even if one of us is a medical professional they cannot tell you/help you without seeing you.
