You can get the ears to stand w/o cropping. There is a system you can buy at www.hoytt.com. But you must start it before 8 weeks of age and it may take as long as 1 yr. If your dog has already started teething it is already too late, even for cropping, unless you were going to use the military crop which is super short. If you are going to use the Hoytt system or tape method, for that matter, diligence is the key. After you start, the puppy's ears must be kept erect, except to take them down to clean and air out for a bit. I take my pups ears down about once every 3-4 days and then tape them back up after about 3 hrs.

Affenpinscher Brussels Griffon Chihuahua chinese language Crested Toy Manchester Terrier- ears are never cropped by skill of an excellent breeder (toy everyday prohibits cropped ears) and are self-status. Miniature Pinschers- cropping is suitable yet no longer required-ears self-stand if no longer cropped whilst bred to everyday. Poorly bred canines' ears won't totally self-stand, yet any nicely-bred canines' will- examine breed everyday. Papillon Pomeranian Silky Terrier Toy Fox Terrier Yorkshire Terrier

Doberman ears are cropped to stand like that.

In the case of like a German Shepherd, I would suggest a tablet of Vitamin C chewable. It help keep up the good cartilage. I had our recent puppy start getting floppy ear and after starting a Vit C regime, her ears were perked in 3 days.

I'm doubt it would work for a Dobe though since that's not their "natural" ear position. The cropping is just a cosmetic procedure, similar to Great Danes. It does not do anything to improve hearing or their guarding abilities.

I personally as a breeder don't remove dewclaws(unless absolutely needed due to injury), crop, or dock. It's actually illegal in most countries now except the US.
And even in here it's losing it's hold and more and more breeders/owners/handlers are opting for non-cropping and non-docking.. in and out of the show ring.

Nope. If you tape them, they will be to heavy to stand on end. The only way to do it is have them cropped and then tape.

But personally, I think they look much better natural. Cropping can be painful and if not properly care for can lead to infection and other bad things.

I don't mean to preach, but is mutilating your pet really worth having that fierce looking dog?

Yes please do not crop them. But unfortunately there is no way to train them without them being cropped. When they are cropped, if they fall you tape them down facing the ground and the muscles strengthen and they will stand up. But believe me, I've worked with animals my whole life and that is a very painful procedure for the dogs. And very expensive if they get infected.

Dobies are naturally born with floppy short cute ears and a long tial...think of it having a dobie in it's natural state and the dozen or so people coming up to you asking what kind of dog is that?

However if you insist then tape them up...(they are still cute looking more natural however)

one note, cropping will in no way guarantee that they will stand either. Many cropped ears do not stand or in some cases only one will. So best that they be left natural.

nope cropping is the only way, look how big ur dobbies ears are...beside they are cutier down! they are not ment to stand... like a shepherds or a huskies or a chows..
dobbies don't have the carlige in their ears to make them stand...thats why they have to get cut and taped.

Believe it or not, they have a special type of tape used to train a pups ears to fold over, why not some to make it stand up? Here is a site that shows that.

Don't worry about making his ears stand up. Tape would only irritate his ears and he would probably pull it off anyway.
