I'm not sure that any state would allow you, at age 16, to take custody of two small children. I think it would be incredibly difficult for you, unless you have family that would help you out.

OK. I don't know if you can legally gain custody of the children since you are 16. Know that this is a big responsibility if you choose to take it on. That being said, there is no reason those kids should be in that position and it shows you are a real woman for wanting to take on those responsibilities. How does your mom, dad or legal guardian feel about taking in these kids? that might be an avenue to explore. That way, when you get settled, you can take on the responsibility full time. Focus on your education, because it is through this that you can truly help these kids. You get an education, a good job and you can provide financially as well as emotionally for the kids. Furthermore, they will look up to you as a role model and do the same for themselves.

you can't take the 8 year old you are much too young. That is a big responsibility and at 18 you are not ready, just because you went thru all that to get her glasses fixed doesn't mean you should take the child. I don't think child protective services would allow you to take any of them. I know it's hard for you to let them go but I think that would probably be best.

This is something you should talk over with your own parents. You are very young for such a responsibility, and it would mean giving up just about all your free time to help them. But if you're willing and have the support of your parents--and if the children's father will allow it--you could make a real difference in their lives. Stability is very important for a child, so if you make this commitment remember that it will be lifelong, not something you can walk away from if it doesn't suit you. If you can't talk to your parents, try talking to another adult you trust, such as a teacher, minister, guidance councilor, neighbor or coach. Whatever you decide, remember that it will be for life, both yours and theirs. Good luck.

Honey, it isn't in your power to do anything. Think about it. Say it to yourself "I have no power over this". Besides you have your life in front of you. Why would you hinder your own future with the kids? They will be fine in an adopted 2 parent home - it's the best thing for them. Good luck!

I don't think you legally can. But, if for some reason it is actually a possibility, only do it if you have someone that can help you. You will regret it if you drop out of school.

it would be the right thing to do, but your only 16, i would ask your parents, if they can, or find someone who is willing to take care of them till your older, find someone whose responsible too,.

it sounds like maybe the kids would be better off far far away from your family.
