what other steps should i take to prevent identity theft?

my wallet was stolen from my backpack in nyc. i filed a police report. aside from calling social security, trans union and equifax on monday morning
where else should i report this? (please include number also) what other steps should i do if any? please help and keep your wallets safe when in new york city on 35th and broadway. thanks to all who can be helpfull in advance :-)

did you cancel your credit cards and alert your bank? you pretty much covered everything. watch your credit reports and alert the police if you see something that looks odd.

You cannot prevent identity theft. There are 5 areas and even if your wallet was not stolen, you have a very high chance of getting your identity stolen.
