It says:

"The subwoofer is not magnetically shielded and should not be placed near a video display."

What does it mean, and what would happen if it was. The only thing nearby is my laptop computer, should I worry about it.

Thanks.

The laptop in on the desk and then subwoofer is about a foot and a half to the right and on the floor. Is this a good distance?

the sticker says that not magnetically shield. don't put the subwoofer near something that has magnet in it such as television (the old one. plasma, I don noe)
it will make the tv screen become purple because the magnet has disrupt the magnet in the tv.
about the laptop, if there is no change of display on your screen, you can put the sub there. but I recommend that you place it a bit far from your laptop.

Magnetically shielded means that the speaker drivers magnet is concealed away and not exposed inside the speaker box, hence the magnetic field won't interfere with a tv/monitor screen nearby. If an un-shielded magnet speaker was placed too close to a screen, the image on screen would start to become discoloured in certain places, and possibly, permanently damage it.

A sub usually has a strong magnetic field around its core, and when turned on it can affect anything affected by magnetism that's too close if the sub is unshielded. Usually a sub is placed on the floor away from the pc, monitor, etc.

It means the speaker might cause magnetic inference when it's around other electronic stuff. To test it out, just place it next to the radio, and the radio should make either some static or buzzing sounds.
