By age 12-13 or so, and definately by the time they hit high school. If you dont make a big deal about their bedtime, they'll go to bed on a decent time anyway.

I know I am going to get some thumbs down on this and I do not even care. One of my favorite things to do is snuggle with my kids. My boys always ask me to lay with them and I am happy to do it if my schedule permits. My kids are only young once and I am going to soak up every minute of it. One of my favorite things I remember about growing up was crawling in bed with my mom. I always felt so safe and loved. Now, my boys are young so I guess once they get older I will instinctively know when they are too old. I am not going to be laying in bed with my 16 year old son.

Right away. Mom should have never started it, it becomes a habit and the older the child gets the longer it will take.
The mom has her bed and thats what she should have used from the beginning.

My son was 4 when he said to me, Mommy can dad please tuck me in and read to me? I didnt question him, I just respected his wishes. he is 9 now, he lets me and his dad kiss him on the forehead and says good night, he no longer wants the story at bedtime. I think it is up to the kids, of when they feel safe, and know you are there even when they sleep.

sorry but you shouldnt have started, so now would probably be a good time. If the child is sick and cant sleep thats one thing, but not every night. your son is going to take it very hard if you wait till hes older so now.

Now. It's not a good habit to start, but since you have already gotten him used to it- get him used to going to sleep by himself while he's young.
