This is more of a statement, I know why people say stupid things: ignorance. But I don't understand the logic. They say:

"Cops should be out catching rapists and murderers, not giving out speeding tickets and making money for the city!"

I remember one cop saying this to me and he told the guy in response: "There's a murder happening right now? Someone's getting raped? Where? I'll arrest them if I know where they are!"

F.Y.I.: traffic stops are the #1 cause of felony arrests!

Most people are in denial that a cop who stops them IS stopping crime. Our society is becoming more and more anti-authority. People don't even know what their rights are, but the second you try to stop them from doing something, they are sure it is their constitutional right.

Here's a traffic stop story for you. It comes from my husband who has been an officer for 13 years:

One night a fellow cop that he worked with attempted to pull a man over for the minor offense of a busted headlight. The car didn't stop and a police chase was soon underway. They chased the man for quite awhile before being ordered to give up the chase (his department had recently received harsh criticism for a chase that ended badly). The next day they found the car abandoned. It turns out the vehicle was stolen. Also, there was a body of a woman who had been beaten, raped, and strangled in the trunk. The autopsy concluded that she was alive at the time of the chase and forensic evidence showed that she was in the trunk the entire time.

Traffic stops do catch criminals of the worst kind and there is a reason the police need to pursue fleeing cars.

Typical response from sheeple who can't accept responsiblility for their own actions. Do more people get murdered and raped every year or die in car wrecks? No cop I ever knew got into Law Enforcement so he/she could write traffic tickets. It is an unpleasant aspect of most patrol jobs. Everybody wants to catch wife beaters, child molesters, and rapists. I don't add murderers because afterall some killing is praiseworthy.

I agree that that is important, but here (edmonton, alberta), the cops will outright refuse to do anything about any broken laws, for example, a hit and run with witnesses where the make of vehicle and liscence plate were gotten, they just write it up and won't even look for the person... a friend was raped by the man she babysat for, they told her to go home, just don't tell anybody...The chief of police, his son and daughter (also cops) were recently discovered to be in a massive conspiracy that screwed over pretty much the whole city and made them rich... and they drive homeless people to other parts of the city and dump them off, just for laughs etc., etc. The cops here are worse than useless, because they cost us money! .

I have family in the law enforcement, and I hear all kinda of crazy stuff. People dont realize there are different divisions with law enforcment, some do traffic, some to drug bust, some to office work and so on. 60% of pepole getting a ticket usually have a warrant out for them.
It's always the criminals that have a problrm with officers, go figure!

We live in a world of no fault so any way to push blame to something else is the way most people go. Usually those who make such statments are guilty of the ticket etc. and try to make it the cops fault somehow. If they aren't 'out stopping crime' they are the ones to blame for an ignorant motorists mistake. Our society doesn't realize the importance of these tickets - it's for our own darn safety!!

for my area, it particularly is no longer approximately tickets. A cop is in simple terms doing their interest with tickets, arrests and so on. If a value tag is honest then it particularly is honest. it is advantageous. it is extra some cop's mindset in direction of people. The courtroom is to punish people, no longer cops. What I dislike some proportion of cops is they're rude and disrespectful without provocation and that they experience soft breaking rules themselves. as quickly as I say "rules" I advise ALL rules, no remember how petty people think of they're. The regulation is the regulation and a cop has no authentic to break any of them. So in the event that they do, it is annoying. additionally, for somebody who's purpose and considerate sufficient, you will discover a development of a few cops being a "bully". lower back, no longer all cops (and those cops which at the instant are not bullies are super). yet people are sensible sufficient to tell if a cop is "in simple terms doing their interest" or in the event that they're "in it for the bullying ingredient". The bully ingredient DOES exist. It in simple terms does. it is a standard certainty. I strongly disagree that it particularly is a thankless interest. quite some folk thank cops each and all the time. additionally, they gets a commission to do the interest. on the top of the day, a paycheck is the only thank you a job could get. If somebody needs to thank previous that, advantageous, whether it particularly is no longer required or predicted. The pay is. There are "stable" cops and "undesirable" cops and the stable cops do in comparison to being judged by skill of what that undesirable cops do. I see this sentiment plenty. whether, i think the "stable" cops could pass a step added and weed out the "undesirable" ones. it is extremely complicated for a civilian to hold undesirable cops to blame. it is plenty plenty extra easy for that undesirable cop's coworkers to hold them to blame. particularly, there could be NO undesirable cops. till then, some people are going to dislike issues. NYTRAIN: I see what you're asserting and agree. whether, many cops fall into the "breaking of site visitors rules" classification which you talk approximately. those cops are in simple terms as undesirable because of the fact the civilians you talk of. If no longer worse, cuz there is not any one to seize them. So i'm able to in comparison to a cop for breaking the regulation for the authentic same reason which you do in comparison to civilians breaking the regulation.

I like your point. I wish cities around the world would take SOME focus off revenue raising and channel more resources into other areas. I dont know about other countries but Australia is screaming out for people to choose police work as their profession - we just dont have enough.

Police persons don't get the respect they deserve. I, for one, don't mind the police giving speeding tickets. A speeder could wind up killing somebody in an accident. When I have been stopped by the police, they have always been very polite and professional, and I try to be polite to them. They have one of the most difficult and stressful jobs there is.

I'm not sure why people say that because if they weren't breaking a traffic law, they wouldn't be getting a ticket - so... I think the police ARE attempting to stop crime. Just because they're mad about the ticket, doesnt mean they don't deserve it.

I agree, a great deal of criminals are caught through traffic violations. Not to mention, breaking the law, is breaking the law no matter what the offense.
