Thank God, someone else is trying to get rid of that Modular motor. The Cleveland was Ford's performance small block in it's day. Problem is it was prone to cracking and parts are getting harder to come by. Both will fit!! The Cleveland has bigger heads, but a shorter deck height, and will fit where a Windsor will fit. The Cleveland 4V heads from the factory had gigantic ports and made alot of power on the top end, but won't make torque because the mixture will not have any velocity because of the port size. The aftermarket is making heads now, but they're not cheap. The only problem with the Windsor from the factory is poor head design, which has now been resolved by the aftermarket. The Windsor aftermarket head designs are actually more suited to a 351 ci street small block than the Cleveland aftermarket heads. I don't know of anyone who makes a kit for either of these in this year, but D & D makes a kit for both into a Foxbody Mustang. Everything should be the same except the headers. I believe the Windsor will use the same mounts as the 302, but the headers and pan are different. I know Hooker makes 1 5/8" headers for this because the '95 Cobra R had a 351 Windsor. D & D and Ford make pans for the Windsor, and D & D for the Cleveland. Also, if you plan on using fuel injection, parts for the Windsor will be FAR easier to find. Get ahold of D & D, they should be able to help further. They make good stuff for these cars. Good luck!

Ford made the Cleveland & the Windsor at the same time - The Cleveland had a weaker bottom end, but the heads were better. The Windsor had a stronger bottom end, but weak heads. All was solved when TrickFlow cast aluminum heads that fit the Windsor but had the air flow of the Cleveland. Now, the Windsor has it all. Plus, the 5.0 and the 351 Windsor have the same bottom end, so a 351W will drop right in after you pull a 5.0. I have a 351W stroked to 427 in my '89 hatch back, & it looks like it was meant to be there. Have 550 hp on pump gas, plus a/c & all the comforts..

351 Windsor but I would personally try to bore the 302 V8 over replacing it with a 351.

The dimensions are very similar so either will fit. It depends on what you intend to use the car for. The Windsor makes more low end torque but the Cleveland makes more top end horsepower. The Windsor is easier to get parts for.

If I had my choice and wanted a really bad car, I would use the 302 Boss, that is a 302 block with 351 heads,......and speaking of heads this will put yours in the back if you aren't careful

351 Windsor, it is much more practical for everyday driving and you get a better torque distribution throughout he powerband....
I would get an FRPP shortblock and some AFR185 heads and a nice FI intake. Porting is also a must....and get nice headers...

Cleveland is a far better engine but a windsor is a far better fit. Personally I would go for a 289 with 4V heads.

If you are asking which to put in it, go with the Windsor. Parts are FAR more plentiful (and cheaper).

cleveland is a great engine, but you'll be better off with the Windsor, besides it won't fit.
