Is it just that frying chickens are smaller? Can you roast a frying chicken.

Frying chickens are younger and more tender meat. The roasters are older and really need longer cooking times to help tenderize them. The skin on roasters is thicker and tougher also. Fryers can be roasted though and roasters can be fried.

Roasting chickens are older chickens with more weight and fat on them. Usually anything over 4lbs. is considered a roasting chicken. Frying chickens are younger chickens. I find the best frying chickens are usually around 3 lbs. to 3 1/2 lbs.

a chicken cut for frying can't be too big because by the time the inside is cooked, the outside will be horribly burnt. so these pieces are cut smaller to allow for that, or alternatively they are pre cooked, then crumbed and fried.
a chicken cut for roasting can be any size and usually has the skin on to keep the moisture in the meat. it can either be individually portioned pieces or roasted as a whole chicken.

you can roast a frying chicken, but you can't fry a roasting chicken unless you pre-cook it.

i hope that was what you're asking

Hi!!

A roasting chicken cooks in it's on juices, it doesn't acquires more calories. In fact, roasting a chicken get rid of some if not most of the fact.

As opposed to a frying chicken, where the oil used to fry it , gets through the meat staying trapped and as a result of this adding much more calories, to the meat.

But either roasting or frying if the cook knows what is doing, the chicken should be delicious!!! Enjoy!!!!

GOD BLESS YOU NA D HAPPY LIFE

The age of the chicken is the difference. Roasting chickens are usually older birds that have a little bit tougher flesh.

Frying chickens are just smaller & less plump. I roast them all the time. They're perfect for two & plenty enough left over for a pot of soup or a pot pie.
