You're only an atheist if you believe that there is no god. Since you said that you're not sure if there is a god or not, it sounds as though you're an agnostic... although that may change either way depending on what you learn, your influences, et cetera.
According to the RCC (Roman Catholic Church) you have to believe in God as he's been revealed to you to go to heaven, in addition to doing good works. But then, what if there is a god and it's nothing like the RCC god?
My personal belief, which I think makes a lot more sense, is that if there is a god then it wouldn't care if you necessarily had faith in it so long as you were reasonable and did your very best. But then, I've been slapped with the label "fluffy relativist" by some at my RCC school, and I highly doubt that there is a god anyway.
All that aside, it's great that you're thinking about such things, and don't ever let people discourage you for doing so. As time goes by, you can learn a lot through reading, talking to others (doesn't matter what faith as long as they are reasonable) and thinking a lot for yourself. You might even try keeping a philosophy journal in which you can write questions you have and muse about them. Doing all of that will definitely make you wiser, and whatever you choose as far as religion or lack thereof will be a well-informed choice.
Good luck.

I don't blame you for becoming an atheist, you were probably, if I may venture, taught all your life that the Bible is the word of God and don't read the Qur'an.
This deleted all options except to become an atheist.
My concern is that all the things that drove you to be atheist in the Bible, are also opposed in the Qur'an. In the Qur'an, God assures you that those who tampered with the Bible, those who drove you to be atheist are burning in hell.
God assures you that he saved Jesus from the cross, and Jesus will return on Judgment day.
There are zero contradictions in the Qur'an.
God wrote that the Earth is oval (Qur'an 79:28) over 1,400 years ago which was just discovered less than 50 years ago while the majority of Christians up to the 1800's believed it was to be flat, and then believed to be perfectly round..
God put water in and on this earth in precise measurement so that you can survive." (Qur'an 23:18), God raised mountains from the Earth so that the earth crust does not quake with you." (Qur'an 16:15). All phenomenon's and much more that humans discovered less than a few centuries ago while it was written in the Qur'an over 1,400 years ago.
There are over 127 references to science in the Koran, all proved true by Christians Doctors and Scientist who then converted.
I will stop here.
If you find something is missing, try God.
The Qur'an is a book from God, who else could have removed the curse of Babylon by having only the true believers in ONE God (1.5 Billion) speaking only 1 language and only 27% of Muslims are Arabs.
If you ever want to return to God, you may attempt to re-enter the Church community but you know by now that God must be perfect, forgiving and He does not prompt people to do bad things.
You must have tried to give Church a second chance only to find yourself an atheist once again. Well, the next time you feel the need to return to God, go to a mosque, take the translation of the Qur'an and read it.
You will discover why missionaries, bishops and preachers are converting, all who have had the temporary lapse of atheism such as yourself.

If your sitting on the fence, get down on your knees and ask God to reveal himself to you.......and trust me he will.....he is waiting for you. As far as being good none of us are, we are all sinners whether you believe in God or not. We are fooled very early into believing if we are good or decent we will enter heaven. Remember Santa Claus........take the n in Santa and put it on the end, and you end up with Satan's Claus. (So Satan is dyslexic and can't spell). Santa teaches you to be good and you will be rewarded. When we find out Santa doesn't exist, we realize we've been lied to, and decieved...but we still believe in being good, it gets ingrained in us, thus Satan's clause and it is a lie from the pit of hell. Who on earth doesn't think that they do good. Even the worst of the worst will think they are good and do good. Where do you draw a line in the sand to say who is good and who is not good. The fact is we are all imperfect, and we all do evil and we all do some good, and are all in need of a Saviour. Are you going to tell me that Jesus was a masochist and went to the Cross for fun and said boy I can't wait to get these spikes nailed through my hands and legs, I can't wait to hang on the cross and have my flesh tear with every agonizing breath. Did he go there without purpose? If God doesn't exist, explain to me how all life began. Did it happen all by itself. Rubbish......does a BMW just appear out of nothing by chance.....no it is an idea, planned and created . Think of how much more complex all life forms are then the BMW and you are talking about a mathematically impossibility that it was all by circumstance. Only a fool would believe that. I think it is great you are seeking, don't stop, ask God to reveal himself, and he will in the most powerful way in which you cannot deny his existance. I know, it happened to me, and I was the same way you were believing in being a good person to enter heaven, except I didn't believe in God, and I hated Christians and Christianity, (go figure) you are agnostic.
Blessings to you,
Daniel

No, you just do not have a logical way of understanding God and heaven. I have totally been there. Once I realized that God was not an identity, and that we create our own heaven or hell here on earth things started to come together for me. God gave us a mind to choose to live in heaven or hell. I believe heaven and hell exists here on earth and not a lot seem to get that. There whole life is spent serving rather than choosing. I was a catholic growing up and I will say that catholics have a better spin on things. I think this because they do not take the bible literally speaking.

Call yourself an agnostic. That is a person who isn't sure is there is a god, if they are going to heaven, etc. It is not like an Atheist who has the positve idea that none of this exists. You are an agnostic, which isn't bad at all, you question things and leave it all open to possibilities.

Looking at the way your phrase your question - I would say you are an agonistic who's sitting on the fence. You don't want to go to church, or follow the Christian life style - yet you want to go to heaven. Defined in Christian terms.
You can't have it both ways. In the Christian religion you would be destined for hell because you did not embrace Jesus as the Messiah.
Other faiths would say yes - you would go to a type of afterlife that is like heaven.

I am going to answer with a question;
Do you trust God? Do you live your life doing the right thing because you are afraid of going to Hell?
If you answered yes to those 2 questions then I do not believe that you could possibly be an Athiest.

No. There is no heaven.
If you don't know if you believe in God or not then why are you wondering if you will go to heaven? If you're unsure about God why would you be sure that heaven exists? Without God there is no heaven.

What do YOU think? Do YOU think a loving and just god would punish a good person?
Imagine a parent who is kind to his children but who threatens them with terrible torture if they decide to do anything he doesn't like (like choose the wrong career or mate). We would call that abuse, wouldn't we? Shouldn't we expect better from a deity?
Also, ask a child. I know three-year-olds with more compassion than the God of the Bible. Shouldn't we expect our deities to have at least as much compassion as a preschooler?
Go with your gut. Isn't it possible there is a God, just not the Christian version?

If you don't believe in god then yes. Atheism has nothing to do with morals, you can have good, or bad morals and still not believe in god.
