I have had several root canals and even after the numbing medicine wears off, there is no residual pain. . . it should be nothing but relief.
What you are describing is what I feel when my tooth is abcessed and it is hurting prior to the root canal.
Is it possible that you needed two root canals on two seperate teeth.
Is it possible that you had the root canal but there is an abcess in the gums going on.. . this too is what makes my bad tooth feel bad prior to a root canal.
If it is hurting this bad then may I suggest you keep anthing hot or cold away from the area because this will send a pain through your head like you wouldn't believe.
Check back with your dentist as this doesn't sound right at all,not at all.

Pain after a root canal is normal. You need to call your dentist and ask them if they can give you a prescription for tylenol #2, or you can go to walk in clinic and ask the doctor for a prescription.
While you wait I found that if I take a sip of water and swish it around the mouth then the pain subsifes a bit.
Hope you, get better. I remember the pain, I had two root canals done in the same year.

the one and only root canal I had done, was a nightmare. That area hurt so much for so long.
I will never go through that again. Mine took about 6 months to finally stop hurting. I do not know why it hurt, the dentist kept telling me "well it shouldn't". but it did.
I took pain killers every once in awhile and regular advil.
It finally got better..

How long has it been??If it was just done within the last 2 days you are just sore and that should wear off if it goes on longer then a week i defentely would call the surgeon who did it because with a root canal they removed your living roots so you should have no feeling at all in that tooth..Good luck teeth aches are the worst..

FIRST OF ALL, PAIN OF A TOOTH, ESPECIALLY WITH A FRONT TOOTH SHOULD NOT BE PAINFUL WHEN IT IS TOUCHED. THE NERVE HAS BEEN REMOVED SO THE TOOTH SHOULD NO LONGER FEEL ANYTHING, RIGHT??? THAT IS USUALLY THE CASE, UNLESS THERE WAS DAMAGE TO THE ROOT FOR WHICH THE PAIN WOULD BE SENSED BY THE BONE THAT SURROUNDS THIS TOOTH. A POSSIBLE ROOT FRACTURE MAY HAVE OCCURRED. HAVE AN ENDODONTIST EVALUATE THIS TOOTH A.S.A.P.
