I've been dating my boyfriend for two months, but we've been friends since we were in second grade (we're both in high school now). He liked me as more than a friend for the past two years, but he's geeky and really shy, so he never made a move. When I went away to boarding school, he was really nice to me and called or e-mailed every day just to talk to me. I started to like him, so I asked him out (I'm back from boarding school and go to public school again with him now). The problem is, he is EXTREMELY shy. He'll put his arm around me, but he's afraid to kiss me, and I'm kind of getting annoyed of always being the one to make the first move. I mean, seriously, we've been dating for months and he still hasn't actually asked me out. I know he still really cares about me and I really like him, but what can I do? It's not like I can just tell him "Stop being shy and respectful of me. I want to have some fun." Any ideas (PLEASE keep responses clean)?

I know he's not gay or afraid of sex or anything like that. When I make the first move, he really enjoys it (ie he smiles, wraps his arms around me, kisses my neck). He's just terrified of taking the initiative. Also, I'm his first girlfriend and he's my first boyfriend, meaning that I know to respect he's shy because he's completely inexperienced, and therefore, I was fine with it for the first month-ish. However, it's starting to irritate me and I'm afraid it's going to continue for the rest of our relationship. So, any ideas about how I can express to him that I want him to just try to move a bit (super italicized) faster?

You have a problem here. Do you want an experienced guy, then drop him. Because he is not experienced, and will probably grade every woman he meets, from now on, with you as the gold bar to measure them by. He is so afraid of offending you, of saying something that will cause you to want to leave him. He feels he is so lucky and doesn't want that luck to pass from him. And, worst of all, you want a bad boy, not an respectful guy. He will not learn how to be a bad boy unless you take the time and effort to teach him.
Only problem with that, everything you teach him might get used against yourself. I say take him as he is, fresh, virginal, and totally dedicated to you.

First of all, if you asked him out and he said yes then you are going out. Second, maybe you should be more respectful to him. Pressuring him into an uncomfortable position may cause your relationship to go down the tube, not to metion your friendship. Plus if he can't give you you what you want then don't go out with him anymore. You don't have to be boyfriend and girlfriend to care about someone. So take a moment and think. Is it worth it to get upset at your bf when it isn't his fault he's shy, or should you be supportive of how he is and ask him if you can kiss in public every once in a while?
Trust me and take your time with your relationships! Things will get out of hand very quickly and you won't know what to do.
Best of Luck to you and your bf!

My bf was really nervous and shy around me when we first started dating. I know in high school 2 months can seem like a long time. He was just nervous that he would screw things up between us and didn't want to make the wrong move. Your bf could feel the same. Let him know that you're getting tired of making the first move. So long as you don't expect him to completely change and realize that any change will probably be small and possibly infrequent it shouldn't be that bad.
