You have a lot of options at this point. Many youth agencies have been created to help brilliant people such as yourself out.

They provide how to resources free of charge, and best of all, you can get money for your projects.

Here is a list of 3 web sites to get you started:

www.youthnoise.com
http://www.yesworld.org/resources.html
http://www.nylc.org/resource_center.cfm

Depending on where you live however, you could get in touch with your local county extension office. Ask your school counselor or a teacher to see if they can get in touch with the county extension office for you and explain to them you are looking for an opportunity to serve.

Extension should be involved in many environmental projects, and they will have resources and projects in place that you can join. Trust me, it is easier to join and build an existing project than create a new one. You won't be left cleaning someone else's trash.

I hope this helps.

First of all, just let me say that you are AWESOME for being interested in such things and furthermore taking a stand for your beliefs.

One thing that you could do is volunteer at your local animal shelter/humane society. I've been doing that since I was your age, and it is not only helpful to the community and animals but also a lot of fun.

Another possibililty is that you and your group could adopt a river or a highway.

If you're more interested in spreading knowledge, try starting at your school. See if you can do some sort of Earth Fair (maybe not even around Earth Day, so that people are focused on the world at more than one time a year) at which you could have exhibits about people's impact on the environment, what they can do, and the beauty of nature from the universe to the biomes to the microcosms.

I hope that whatever you decide to do works out well!

P.S. Try talking to Jess Ganeshan in the Yahoo! group teens4difference. She's great, and would be of significant help to you.

Please visit TeenActivist.Org, and share your activist knowledge and experience with other teens. I wish I could say that there are hundreds of ideas there for you, but we're just getting started. Nevertheless, there may be a few ideas for you. We're collecting ideas right now, and your Roots and Shoots club sounds like an awesome idea. (In a real way, just by taking 12 minutes to contribute to TeenActivist.Org, you are doing something more!)

Thanks,
Sean :)
