You get very, very, very tired, even if you get plenty of rest you still don't have any energy. You can get depressed; you get irritable; you may gain weight. The only time you should go off your thyroid meds is when your doctor tells you to and that's usually only if you are being scanned, usually for cancer.

Don't stop taking thyroid pills without tapering off and talking with your doctor.

If you're taking them for an overactive thyroid, you could give yourself a heart attack from the return flush of adrenaline or give yourself permanent panic disorder.

If you're taking them for an underactive thyroid, you could immediately gain a lot of weight even if you aren't eating.

There are other complications too.

You could end up making the situation worse than it ever was and in some cases, quitting the medication can result in permanent damage to the thyroid, which may prompt it to be removed completely and then you're on medication for the rest of your life.

Don't take the guidance of any of us here. You really need to talk to your doctor about it. If you aren't comfortable with the fact that your doctor will try to keep you on the meds no matter what, find another doctor.

You get really fatigues all the time. You may lose some hair. When I quit mine for awhile I was tired all the time, depressed, gained weight, you can even have diabetic symptoms such as thirsty all the time. Skin discoloration. Once you are on the meds you need to religiously take them the rest of your life. You thyroid is basically the control center hub for all the functions of your body.

Ask your doctor for a RX for the natural thyroid treatment. Ask for Armour Thyroid. People tend to do better in this medicine, due to it being a natural and not synthetic

Whatever was going wrong to begin with will start back up again. You're taking the pills because your thyroid is working too hard, or not enough.
