If a Christian doesn't weep over the thought of someone going to hell, they don't understand their own sinfulness, nor do they understand God's grace. God is just, but God is good.

I have never heard of any Christian being 'smug' about other people going to hell ... although I do admit that there are many 'Christian religions' that are seemingly so into 'pushing Christianity down the throats' of people who are merely hungry or want a place to sleep that I suppose you could say that they are 'smug' because they think that they are 'going to heaven' and that these homeless and hungry people can't be 'going to heaven' because they are 'living in Hell on Earth' now.
I am a Catholic, and we actually give far more 'charity' to the poor and homeless and hungry in the city I live in ... but we don't make them 'pay' by listening to us 'pray for their souls' or push Christ at them in ANY WAY. Christ said 'let not your right hand know what your left hand is doing' when he talked about people 'giving charity' and that is what we 'do' every day. I wish more so-called Christians could be like us Catholics (who are also Christians, by the way ... we are the 'oldest Christian church' ... but since we don't go out and 'evangelize' they may even think that to be a Catholic is not to be a Christian ... and since some have tried to 'evangelize me' I know that is 'true' ... and very SAD.
GOD is the only one to know 'who is going to heaven' and who is going to hell ... and I think I'll see a lot of 'good atheists' in Heaven, and may see some of those 'evangelizing Christians' in Hell, because they believe that 'making the poor pay for their meals and a place to sleep' is 'good for Christ' ... but my husband and I do not.

By no means are all Christians happy when they think people are going to hell (not all Christian denominations even believe in hell).
Having said that, I have met more than a few that seem to truly LOVE the idea that people who don't believe the same way they do will suffer horribly for it. I guess the idea just appeals to a certain personality type.
Plus, it has been the traditional way to gain more converts, and keep the current ones in line. Fear has always been a strong motivator.

The ones that you are referring to have NO understanding of Jesus. Jesus called for Mercy, most of all. If someone can not show mercy, then it will not be shown to them. It says that in so many words in the bible, somewhere.
For as you judge, you will be judged.....not quote/unquote.
However, God DOES want you to use common sense that he gave you which requires for you to make certain judgments about people or things or lifestyles. It says in the New Testament that "a spiritual man judges all things"

Its not that they are belligerent about it, they just belive in sonething very strongly and when you strongly belive in your faith you follow the rules of your faith and in certain cases if you break some of these rules you could go to hell but how ever my grand mother ALWAYS told me that our god is a forgiving god! He wants his "children" to go to heaven and be with hima and so do other christians. They dont just want someone to go to hell but they do want others to follow the commandments and remember that god is always watching.
God bless

What do you mean?
What are Christians supposed to do?
Well, it's called "evangelism".
Evangelism is spreading the Gospel to others, the lost,.. those going to hell. Often when Christians present the Gospel of Christ they are shunned and ridiculed yet they continue. Intolerance of Christianity is growing every day. Largely due to many mis-conceptions like this one. I don't know where you got this idea, but I feel, that if you look deeper you'll see that this is NOT the case.

I believe that smugness is a manifestation of anger. And that some Believers strike back at those who are firing at them. It certainly should not be our response, especially when dealing with the subject of eternal judgement.
This is one doctrine that we should not be smug or joke about.
Even believers(though saved and heaven bound) are taught to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling.

Some people are taught that they are going to die and go to hell for just about everything, being raised this way they tend to be as vocal about it as their life experiences have led them to be. I was not raised in this manner but a great deal of Christians are. Some are not Christians although they claim to be. God does not want us to be hateful and belligerent, I believe he wants only for us to Love one another. He doesn't want for people to argue and bicker, he would want us to show kindness and compassion to everyone.
God does not want anyone to go to hell. God knows us better than we know ourselves. My God is Kind. My God is Merciful. My God is Loving, My God is Giving, My God is powerful and My God wants everyone to turn their hearts and minds upon him. I do not dwell on nor give much thought to Lucifer, nor his dwelling place, I have no time for that, I give time and prayer toward my God, My God is a big God. God does not think as men think nor does he do as men do. My God is Holy, Holy, Holy, Holy, Holy, Holy, Holy, he is Myriads upon Myriads of Holiness, it is a holiness that we have no concept of. I am Glad that My God gets to be the one to have judgment over me rather then the merciless. My God is not a weapon to be wielded against me, My God is my protection. I follow after no man, I follow after My God. We are all sinners and fall short of the glory of God.

It is in human nature to feel somehow superior or better than someone else, no matter how 'low' you, yourself, are in the universe of things. Arlo Guthrie did an apropos comedy sketch on this topic ages ago. So, you (generic) have little else to feel superior about??? Use religion as a crutch!!!!!!!!!!!! - "I believe, therefore I am better than you!!!"

What up M.O.S., i think of in some procedures that illustrates grace for you. What i recommend by way of that's that Christians are the two as responsible of disobeying God-- God is amazingly sparkling interior the Bible approximately how Christians could desire to share his message, and that that's actual a message of love no longer condemnation. The Bible talks approximately conversing the actuality devoid of love, and (properly you get it- there are dissimilar passages). i think of that's why Christians could desire to realize that they are sinners saved by way of grace- and that they are not greater effective than all people else. So while they arrive for the era of like that- there are a number of circumstances the place human beings reject the message because of the fact they reject the guy. and that's unhappy. when I share God's message with human beings they have the liberty to settle for or reject it- because of the fact God values guy's freedom. off beam you share God's coronary heart and that's all you're able to do. i could desire to assert that people who do no longer share God's message with God's coronary heart are hurting the message, and actual lacking the middle of God. all people solutions for themselves and that i'm no longer able to think of that the Lord would be too happy with people who've drawn others far off from Him- by way of misrepresenting His love. in many circumstances i wish its merely immaturity and that they are going to strengthen out of it. yet thank you for pointing out an extremely genuine fact -- that Christians who share God's love devoid of love are greater effective off being silent... Kindly, Nickster
