Well it depends on her breed. Persians usually lose their voices after a while and will have a silent meow. Which just includes their mouths opening and no sound or a slight whisper.
Second of all she may be very quiet. A content cat never meows. So in a way its a good sign that she is happy. ((or very very sick which doesn't sound likely))
Another reason is something may have happened to her. It is very possible that somethign happened to her. (( something grabbing her by her neck ect...) could disrupt her voice box. But really it's not a worry.

This might sound weird but my cat doesn't meow because he gets really nervous. That might be the reason. He meows around me and then when he's around anyone else he won't even look at them. Then I had another cat that just couldn't meow, it was some kind of birth defect. That could be the causes although I doubt it but it's worth a shot.

kittens like children learn to talk or meow from their parents I have an 11 year old motherless cat that was found and bottle raised by me and has never learned to meow but he makes other strange noises or chatters at me when he wants attention or food or whatever and he purrs all the time.

Consider it the ultimate compliment. Cats never meow to each other, only to humans to get their attention. And that little "umkpp" is an, "I'm oh so happy to be here," sound. You didn't say whose chair it was. Cats will always gravitate to the most positive energy site in a home, whether it's your bed, your couch, whatever. So whoever's favorite chair that is should feel truly honored. It's like a kitty feng shui.

She may not be 'meowing' because she's TOTALLY HAPPY to be living with you and your family. We had a part Siamese cat, who never 'spoke above a whisper' when she did 'meow' and that was only extremely rarely ... and she was just 'happy to be our cat,' even after we got another cat and they HATED each other. They didn't 'fight' because I think that they both knew we wouldn't 'put up' with that ... but they NEVER DID ANYTHING TOGETHER, and even 'ate dinner' at separate times and from separate bowls. I think you should be 'extremely proud' that Gracie doesn't 'meow' ... because 'meowing' isn't Gracie 'talking' to you ... it's Gracie 'complaining' to you ... which she 'doesn't do because she's HAPPY.'

Some cats just aren't talkative, it doesn't mean that anything is wrong oer something traumatic caused it. Trauma usually goes the opposite way. I have 4 cats at my house right now (2 foster) and one of them never meows while the other is overly talkative at times.

All cat's are different just like people, some people are extremely vocal and others express more through expression and body language, same with cat's.Some like to "talk" others like to act,you just have to learn what her body movements mean.I had one that never meowed but his eyes and ears spoke volumes.
