It means having them cut by the vet so that they stand up like those of a DOberman pinscher for example. They normally have lovely long soft ears.
A female dog starts to pee a few drops every few houses. Then one day you open your door and see up to 20 male dogs on the lawn all looking a little bit crazy, waiting for the lady to come out.
Then you notice your dog has been dropping blood all over the house. You check her genitals only to see she is all puffed out and red. This is called the rosy red period. And if she is of an age, she will be wanting out with the boys.
We breed standard poodles. This is pretty well how it goes although we do not have to deal with the above situation. Just Howard and his two ladies. Heat can also be put off through medicines from the vet. This is great for breeding dogs so that they do not get worn out and tired because it is hard on a dog to have up to a dozen puppies.
Heat lasts for a few weeks. If you are wanting puppies, the gestation from the conception of the first puppy is 60 days. If she has had lots of "friends" she might have all different pups, because she can be fertilized by all of them. The last puppy to be fertilized is the one that is born the runt because it had the least time to mature inside Mom. Almost 3 weeks less than the biggest born.
Neat, everything you needed to know about heat. SOrt of.

Cropping: A lot of owners will cut of part of their dogs ears (the tips) to make them appear more attractive or for other health reasons.
Heat: When girl dogs are in heat it means that they are on their period.

Cropping was intentionally done on a lot of the "working" breeds... hunting, guarding, bull baiting, etc. It was done on them to keep their ears from being torn off on the job, which would (and does) cause more problems than getting them cropped at a young age. It is done on show dogs mainly to fit the standard of the breed although non-cropped dogs are starting to be accepted.
Heat has already been thoroughly explained.

A female dog is in heat when she is wanting to become pregnant...for lack of a better term here...and cropping your dogs is (I consider CRUEL) when pet owners have the pups ears cut and straightened. It is usually done when they are young and a good example of a dog with normally cropped ears is a "Doberman".

To crop a dogs ears they surgically cut them this is usually only done to show dogs. It causes them to "stand up" properly, the ears, not the dog. "In Heat" is basically dog period.

Dobermans have floppy ears but when you see one with the ears standing up and they are small they have been cropped or cut. They remove a portion of the outer ear flap and then tape it and post it so that it will stand up straight. It is done for the looks of it.
Heat is the female dogs reproductive cycle.
They have their first heat about 6-8 months and are "in heat" for 21 days then will go about 6 months and have another one.

Cropping means that the dogs ears are cut to stand straight up & not droop. It is just for looks & I think it's wrong.
In heat means the same thing as a woman being on her period.

Some breeds of dogs get their ears cropped, or cut, at birth according to breed standards.
Female dogs in heat are basically menstruating and signalling to male dogs that they're ready to breed.
