You would need a blank DVD±R. Well it depends on what kind of DVDs your DVD burner can support and what kind of DVDs your DVD player can support. You can check the specs, on the box or in the manual perhaps. It may sound troublesome but nowadays, most DVD burners and players sold supports all types of DVDs.

Anyway, the normal blank DVD size would be 4.7GB, or for Dual-Layer DVD discs, 8.5GB. More capacity = more movies you can put in one DVD!

If you're trying to burn *.avi movies then you would need softwares like NeroVision Express or TMPGEnc to encode/convert the *.avi movies into DVD format, to set the bit-rate(lower bit-rate=less quality=less size=more space for movies in one DVD) and finally to burn.

If you're trying to burn *.mpeg/mpg movies, then... most DVD players nowadays can read this type of file(I have one that can play *.avi as well!). Therefore, you don't have to encode the *mpeg movies into DVD video format. All you have to do is use a burning software, like Nero to burn the *mpeg(or *.avi if you have a DVD player that can play this type of file) movies as DATA.

If you're trying to back-up DVD movies, then just simply use Nero to copy and burn another copy of the DVD.

*Note that all the softwares mentioned here aren't free, but there are trial versions available for download.

If you have a computer that will burn dvds, then you should read the information that came with your computer and it will tell you everything U need to know. Not sure if there is anything free in this world, there seems to be a "catch" to everything. And make sure U pay for the movies you download, otherwise you will get a nasty letter and a court summons.

if you just want to burn it as a data file (means only comps can read it) use nero and burn it as data, if you want to play it on your dvd, get a video converter and burn a dvd video file
