Yes!

Sadly even if a person has been stabalized on meds for years, they won't allow a person wtih such disorder or for that fact all known mental disorders. And if a person covers it up to get in, they can be dishonorably discharged and that will haunt them the rest of their life.

Tell him, a smart guy like him can do just as much for the world in civilian life.

If he really wants to join, tell him to write to the head of the coast guard and ask if there is any thing he could do that would allow him to enter on a trial basis. Showing a long history of being stabalized on meds would be a must.

You should post this on Answers "Psychology":

Even if he lies and sneaks in the results could be "deadly' for him/her or others.

Our Coast Guard requires the most of all services "every day" in peace and war, as the USCG is always at war: with the sea, drug runners and such.

No place for anyone not 100% stable and often even those will falter, wain and have to be very capable.

But "service" to country and fellow man does not depend on just being "military".

Find other paths, avenues to such, and that is all.

Honestly, not if you don't mention it.

Yes if you do.

Not mentioning it is a crime however the military can't check every doctor's office in the U.S. to find your records...

So no harm, no foul right?

;)
