Generally, about a year. Past that you're not getting the fullest potential flavor.

They may last for a year or so, but they may lose their aroma. So its better to buy it in small quantities for better quality & taste. Make sure you insert a very dry spoon into the bottle containing the herb, a moist one will cause it to mould in a couple of days...Theworst part is, you may not even notice the mold...

The geenral rule of thumb is 1 year for whole spices and 6 months for dried.

Depends on the herb. The test I use is: open the container and smell the herbs. If you don't smell anything, you won't taste anything.
