I have my doubts that a soldier would say that Afghanistan is "as bad if not worse than Iraq". In fact, I'm sure one wouldn't since I'm married to one who has been to both. According to him, there is absolutely NO comparison. (He's combat arms, by the way. ... Doesn't sit inside the wire, so I trust his judgement.)

Not to say it's a vacation though, it's still a war.

So, while I doubt you're truly a soldier, I do have to say that it's a shame that Afghanistan is forgotten. There are still men and women dying over there.

Thank you for your service, especially in Afghanistan. This is America's forgotten war, which is sad because it is the war that most Americans and most of the world is behind--it is the place where bin Laden and his minions rose to power and where it is claimed they still have their base.

Personally, I do pay attention to the few bits of information that come forth about the place. I am greatly concerned about the rise of the Taliban again and the increased growing of opium poppies.

I think the reason Iraq is given so much attention is because it was a more controversial war. Public opinion as to the very legality of being there makes it a hot topic. Also, I think the news media has decided that Afghanistan just "isn't news" any more. If you ask the average American on the street, they will probably tell you that we "won" in Afghanistan because that is what they think, thanks to the news media.

I was in Afghanistan for 18 months and I think it is terrible how the focus has gone to Iraq. I think part of the reason is that the American government seems to be more focused on Iraq. I think that the mission in Afganistan is far more important in a global perspective (I am Canadian). I mean you know what it like there, those people need stability if that country is ever going to leave the stone ages. NATO as a whole has a responsiblity to see things through in Afghanistan, plus most people welcome change there, unlike Iraq. I think the death toll in Afghanistan is going to continue to rise if the focus doesn't shift back to Afghanistan and as a result more American, Canadian, British, German, Romanian, Hungarian, Belgian, etc solders will die.

It is my dream to go back to Afghanistan one day and see it in a state of improvement. I mean just to be able to go even safely go in and visit the villages and orphanages I saw before.

The son of friends of mine is a newly retired Major in the U.S. Army, and he was in Afghanistan, and I might be seeing him in a week or two, here in Texas where he calls home. I'll definitely be talking with him about it. Maybe the name Afghanistan has too many syllables for us lazy Americans to want to pronounce. Iraq is just another "four letter word", like so much of our vocabulary, so it's no effort to say "Iraq", where as "Afghanistan" takes effort. I'll talk to my friends' son about it. I'm truly glad you asked your question. God Bless you.

I don't know but we should ONLY be talking about Afghanistan because we shouldn't be in Iraq in the first place.

There's not much for the media to talk about.

There's good evidence of terrorist activity in Afghanistan, no civil war, reasonable troop levels, competent leadership. definable objectives and measurable progress -- nothing really to complain about. So, the media doesn't really cover it.

It's not that you and your troopmates are forgotten. It's just that the American people have a very short attention span, and nothing is going wrong in Afghanistan (on a relative scale).

First off,I'm sorry that people have forgotten about Afghanistan. My boyfriend has been there.Actually some of his friends are there still. It frustrates me that once something more 'exciting' comes along people will forget.I think most people have forgotten b/c Bush and the media focus on Iraq.Thank you for your service and God bless you.
