Are you a teen? Or have you had a baby in the past year? Hormone changes in the body can cause depression. My daughter was diagnosed with polycystic ovaries when she was 15. The hormone imbalance made her emotions go haywire. All last year was a total struggle. Yeah, I got desperate to get her help and went the route of doctor/psychologist and she even saw a psychiatrist who was totally off the wall himself. The medication they put her on helped at first, but then later there was some side effects.
So I weaned her off.
I just want you to know that there are choices. Yeah, medication can help with depression and some doctors are actually good, but it is all guesswork on what kind of medication will work best for you with the least side effects. For my daughter, I decided to do homework on alternative things - - - - vitamin supplements, essential oils, relaxation techniques, detoxifying, etc. These things are actually working for her. No more crying spells - - - the anxiety and worry are practically gone. Hasn't been depressed lately.
Just do your homework and be open to trying natural stuff before you jump into medication. The doctors will have you coming back to them forever unless you find ways to help yourself.

Hello LicoriceBabyDoll. My first advice is to seek professional help so you can be diagnosed and treated. If you are already going to a psychiatrist ask yourself if he is effective or you have to find another psychiatrist. Depression is a real illness that affect a large percentage of worlds population. Depression is caused by an imbalance in brain neurotrastmiters that cause all the symptoms: feelings of worthlessness, extreme sadness, lack of concentration, lack of energy etc. Medicines nowadays help you diminish these symptoms while you find with your doctor the root of the problem. Try to find what is making you cry. If you cry for no reason you can try Bach´s flowers. Get involved in activities such as yoga and acupuncture. Argentox2@yahoo.com

Depends on how long it's been going on and what's going on in your life. If you are typically happy and have a positive outlook on life in general, but are going thru a hard time because of some specific life circumstance, then it's likely not clinical depression and it will pass when your situation improves. If you are depressed constantly for no apparent reason, and your daily life is being impacted, then you really should go see a doctor. There's a myriad of possible causes for depression, both emotional and physical. It could be hormonal, a lack of certain vitamins in your diet, lack of sleep, a thyroid disorder, etc. etc. etc. Only a medical professional can help you determine the best course of action if this doesn't go away.
And...of course...you should pray to your heavenly Father for help, guidance and wisdom.

Are you seeing a counselor about the depression, or a doctor? Are you taking any type of medication? Are you older than a teenager?
I would need the answers to these in order to answer your question. Meds that adults can take, can have reverse affects on teens. A teen could be crying often because of changing hormones or a traumatic event.
You can email me if you don't get a good answer here. I hope you feel better :)

Yes, something is wrong - you have depression. If you cannot think of a reason (recent death in family, etc.) for crying every couple of days or if you have ever had even a passing suicidal thought, you need to get help. Immediately. Depression can be very serious and lead to physical health problems. Please get help. You can start by talking to your doctor if you don't know where else to go. Most phone books have help lines listed on the first few pages.

Yes I am afraid...check this out;
The feeling of depression is one of emotional suffering, sometimes seen as a mental analogue of physical pain. Someone who is depressed may be said to have a "heavy heart", or if more seriously depressed be "broken-hearted", because of a common feeling of the emotion in the chest.[1] Other somatic expressions can be a sense of "low spirits", a "drag" or being weighed down, and a heaviness in breathing, expressed as despondent or dejected sighing. It may also be associated with apathy, boredom, emptiness and lack of any positive source of interest or joy.
External affective signs of depressed mood also include a physical hunching or stooping, or putting the head in the hands, and an appearance of being physically subdued, and flatness of speech.

You already know that something is wrong. You are depressed. Please talk to your doctor. There are medications that can help. Try to get a referral to a therapist. Talking about what you're feeling helps. Good luck
