They have tons of different call's depending on what they're trying to "say" you just have to watch to see what pitch is associated to what action. My favorite is when they "chirp" or "click" it's an excited response usually if they've spotted a bird or something.

They do indeed have different meows. If your cat is lonely it will just walk off and look for affection from other cats or people so I wouldnt worry about that. If your cat jumps up on your lap this is a good sign it is lonely at that moment.

I love the special meow they make when they bring you something they hunted. The I'm hungry meow has to be the sweetest most hard to ignore however.

Cats have many different sounding meows. I have one that makes a loud "RrrrOOOOWWWWRRR" and the other one makes a quiet "mew". And yes their meows can mean different things. As to what you cat's meowing means, I couldn't say. It something each pet owner has to figure out, just like a new parent has to figure out the different cries of a baby. It is possible your cat is lonely...that's why I always keep cats in pairs, so they have a constant companion.

Absolutely! Cats have a huge vocabulary...some sources list over 60 vocalizations. Then you get into various breeds. Each has a particular accent. I have a little grey and white Angora on my lap as I write this. She doesn't meow, she squeaks or makes a variety of really interesting sounds. We also have a Maine Coon who will talk you to death, but you never hear a classic "Meow". With her it's more like a "Awroo". Then there is our Tortoise-Shell. She hardly speaks at all, but when she does it is more like a soft Mew asked like a question. Believe it or not, there are books on the market that will help you interpret what your cat is saying. Call me nuts, but I have learned how to speak "Cat" and can actually carry on a conversation with them. Of course, they can't speak English, so you have to learn their language. Not kidding!

Yes, my cat has a "pissed off feed me" meow. He always lets me know when he is out of food by his meow. He has his own room, so I don't always notice when he is out of food. He makes sure to let me know right before it runs out so I can get him some more!!!

Anyway, advice:
If you spend more time with him and he won't be lonely. Getting another pet because you think the one you have now is lonely isn't the best reason to obtain another animal. He may just want to see you more, and getting another animal isn't going to get rid of that need for your attention. Actually if he does just want you, getting another cat would just mean he has to compete harder for your attention and have the opposite effect that you were wanting. So before commiting to another cat, spend some extra time with the one you have, and see if that helps.

Yes, they have many voices, one that actually sounds like a bird. I don't understand why different types of meows has to do whether your cat is lonely or not.

Yes if you know a cat very well, you will begin to notice its different tones of meowing and what it wants when it does it. Give you kitty more attention or talk about getting him/her a friend! Just call her over when you watching a movie or put her on your bed with you when you go to sleep-- im sure that will help =)

yes they do. and the only reason i know this is because i used to have a cat that had kittens. and she had a total meow language she used on her kittens. i kept one of her kits and still use that certain meow on her to get her to come to me.
it's a mreoowwr roww , rather than a meow. her mamma did it and i just remember it
