Tomatos are acidic and there is vinegar in catsup. However, you might want to take a look and see if you possibly have an allergic reaction or if your lips are dry and cracked. Plus, in the worst case scenario, your ketchup has overstayed its welcome and is now providing a dancefloor for some unwanted bacteria....e-coli?

Ketchup (Catsup) contains vinegar which is an acidic liquid. There may be times when your lips are starting to get chapped and they have small cracks which intensify the effect of the vinegar. Tomato products also are very acidic. You may have a low tolerance for these type acids.

Ketchup has vinegar in it. Tomatoes also have a certain type of naturally occurring acid in them. If you have a sore toungue or cuts in your mouth, it's no surprise that ketchup stings your mouth.
Imagine what pineapple, lemon, or an onion would do.

Maybe you are sensitive to some ingredient in ketchup and it's a slight allergic reaction. Or, if your lips are dry, the acid from the tomatoes and vinegar in ketchup may irritate you.

it might be because your lips are chapped.
my lips were chapped this past week and i think i ate french fries with ketchup or something, and my lips were kind of tingly. i think that's probably why.

tomatoes are highly acidic. Do you have any cold sores or cuts on or in your mouth? for example, if you have a tongue ring recently and you were to eat something acidic like lemon juice, it would surely burn..same difference with acidic products like tomato catsup.
